What I Wish, This I Do Not Practice...

...but what I hate is what I do.

WAKING WITH ENEMIES picks up where SLEEPING WITH STRANGERS leave off. The man with the broken nose means certain death, but why? As a notorious hitman, Gideon has made enemies; enemies that he may or may not know exist. In this sequel, he finds himself involved in a dangerous game of survival, pitting assassin versus assassin. Gideon...a relentless and merciless seasoned pro. Bruno...looking to make a name for himself with Gi...more

It's...hmm. Having not heard about this book or author before (I didn't even realise that there was a prequel) I approached it with average expectations...and was eventually unimpressed. Beginning with the most frequent subject in the other reviews, I did not expect the long lengths of erotica. Don't get me wrong, I did presume, regarding the story line, there would be some sort of aspect to the story. But the amount of length the author went into with the scenes made me wonder if I accidentally...more

Definitely could have lost 100 pages of erotica and improved it.
Seriously, what the fuck was that all about? I'm no puritan, I understand that people have sex, and wild fantastic sex at that. It served just about no purpose with the plot, though. Maybe if Mrs. Jones had turned out to be someone in the contract killing business or something I could see, but nothing. I kept reading despite the first 100 pages being no different than a cheap sex-shop paperback, and it got, thankfully, better.

OMG! A page turner! Just when I thought it couldn't get any better, it did. If you liked the first book in the Gideon series, I am positive that you will absolutely love this one. Eric Jerome Dickey takes you on a never-ending thrill ride, with so many twists and turns and shocking moments that I couldn't even keep up with all the action. This book was so entertaining, as if I were watching a movie, and of course, as only he can do, EJD gives so many hot and steamy scenes that made me love Gideo...more

Eric Jerome Dickey is a phenomenally successful author, especially popular I gather with African American readers. He has 12 other books to his credit. I decided to see what all the fuss was about.
The answer: SEX and lots of it.
If the difference between erotica and porn lies in the literary quality of the work, this book is straight porn.
I won't bother to describe the plot -- it's laughable -- or the characters -- they're non-existent. But the worst aspect of this terrible affront to literat...more

WAKING WITH ENEMIES by Eric Jerome Dickey is the exciting sequel to SLEEPING WITH STRANGERS. Gideon is back...and the man with the broken nose is still hot on Gideon's trail in London. Gideon needs to find him before the man with the broken nose finds him first. It is a game of cat and mouse. The question remains who put a hit out on Gideon, could it be the man he left alive in Tampa, his mother, Arizona, or someone else?

Gideon also has a steamy sexual tryst with two lovely but yet different wo...more

A real page turner.

I really enjoyed this book. I finished reading the book in about a day or two. From cover to cover this book had me hooked. There were so many cliffhangers in this book and you have to pay attention to what is going on so you can follow along. Eric Jerome Dickey has done it once again and I just love the way he wrote this book. Definitely recommend this book to all my friends.

Dark story about an assassin Gideon; his sexual exploits, upbringing, and how he came to be who he is. I couldn't really get into the story personally. Ive never been to England but the author's description painted a picture for me. Since this book is the 2nd in the Gideon series, I'm clearly not interested in pursuing more of Gideon's exploits.

Erotic noir?? Really good conclusion to Sleeping With Strangers. Dickey is a great storyteller. The lengthy episodes of erotica (really border-line porn) I could have done without, and by this second book, I found myself skipping ahead past those sections, because the rest of the story was so good, I couldn't wait to see what happened next in the main storyline. I get the impression that the erotic stuff is mainly what Dickey does, so I may not be reading much of his other books. However, there...more

Bizarre! Still gritty and fast paced. Still reads like poetry in places. Very interesting the effect this story had on me. Don't know how to put it in words really. Like the ending. Could maybe stop here and not read the 3rd book. Gotta find out if there are more after 3. If there are I think I will stop here. Still not a big fan.

Readers beware.......because I read "Sleeping with Strangers" I'm vested. I'm a sucker for sequels, however I must say the first half of the book was pointless. The book didn't get interesting until page 455 and their are only 648 pages in the book and the last 8-9 pages are acknowledgements.

I guess I'm one of those readers who likes it straight with no chaser. I can do without the sidebars, 4-5 pages of sexual encounters and so on....... Just give me the story.

Ugh! Wade picked it and had listened to half of it so I only came in on the last 1/2. Awful awful awful. I totally agree with some of the other reviewers who gave it 1 star. Terrible writing and pointless sex that goes on and on. Reading the reviews is so funny because some people gave it 5 stars.

If you like sexy hitmen and women, and sex, and did I mention violence...Then this book is a must read! It is so steamy, my hair went curly, or was that my toes. Now don't get me wrong, prostitution can be deadly.

I loved the way this series turned out. Just like Sleeping with Strangers, it was very unpredictable. The sex scenes were better in this one than in SWS and the action scenes kept me very intrigued.

This is the 2nd part of the Gideon's series, following Sleeping with strangers. This is really a good series, there's no decrease of excitement/interest in following Gideon, the lovable assassin. There's still a mix of erotica and action and many questions asked in the first volume are answered here.

C'est la 2nde partie de la serie Gideon, qui suit Sleeping with strangers. C'est vraiment une bonne serie, l'excitation/interet ne decroit pas en suivant Gideon, l'assassin que l'on aime. Il y a tou...more

There are three books in this series and I said I would wait till the end to pass judgment... even though I secretly passed judgment from book one!!!

Ooookkaaaayyyyy, much better towards the last third of this book. Too much unnecessary sexual situations for my taste for most of the book, but I braved it to the end (smile) and was not disappointed. There was not enough to make me feel any kind of connection with the characters as in other series I've read, but still passable. The writer has howe...more

Just when you thought it could'tn get any better it does. This plot was hand crafted with perfection. This was an amazing climatic end to Sleeping with Strangers.
Amy
This book was much better than its predecessor. The suspense of what would happen next to the main character kept me turning pages to the end of the book.
Charlie
This is the sequel to sleeping with strangers and it is just as good as the first again the author is a great writer.
