Revolving cast. Set in London. Gideon is a contract killer on his way to London after a contract in the States. Meets Mrs. Jones on the plane, Lola Mack, and the man w/ the broken nose. Thinking things could be a set-up he keeps an eye on thier gestures and what they say.

Man with the broken nose, Bruno, also a contract killer is contracted to kill Gideon. The story is told over a period of several hours with these 2 as the leads as only Dickey can do it. Snapshots of a fractured life.

The book that I am reviewing is called Sleeping with Strangers by Eric Jerome Dickey. The Book is main view is about sex and violence and how a man named Gideon gets his revenge This book is a drama novel .
The book is about a man named Gideon he is a hit man that just committed a murder in Florida for a fee and has fled to London because he knows things can get ugly soon. On the way there Gideon has a feel for the women .He desires one women and she doesn’t want him .Gideon Will soon find out...more

I don't know how to feel about this book. I am at a cross between WTH and surprisingly good. Gideon is a assassin, thanks to his whore mom (NO, seriously, his mom really is a whore), who he still holds a grudge against. He's in love with a woman who is messed up herself, while sleeping with other women. He has a hit out on him, and he is in a different country. The only person I like is Lola or Lula, can't remember her name. The books cuts off with a cliff hanger, so you are going to have to rea...more

It is difficult to build suspense into a written piece, because you must do such a strong job with descriptive imagery that the reader transcends the "book" and goes into their own mind. I found this book to have a fast paced storyline with great action sequences.

Some reviewers voice distaste w/the length of the "erotic" passages that are in the Gideon series--and those passages do go on for several pages at different times--but ultimately, they are effective in portraying Gideon as a dangerous...more

I started reading his books when my high school teacher began bragging about this guy years ago. This was his last book I read. I was really into it. I'm not going to lie, I didn't buy it. I was a broke college student at the time, but I was so addicted I went to Barnes and Noble weekly to finish it up. I found out my school had the book in our bookstore so I'd read it standing up for an hour between classes. The story was really engaging and the action was well balanced. The women were just as...more

Where to start... I guess I will start with how the narrative of this book was somewhat confusing. I wasn't always sure if Bruno or Gideon was the narrator for a particular chapter. The author tries to hint at situations/people early on in the story but introduces so many similar characters and scenarios that I ended up getting confused ("wait, is he hinting at Arizona or Thelma? Is he hinting at Tampa or Amsterdam?"). The hired killer aspect of the story was the one thing I did like. It was int...more

Guess Who's Back?!?

My boy EJD is back, and so am I! Keeping it real, I took an Eric Jerome Dickey hiatus. For years he held a special spot on my shelf as my favorite author, hands down. Then it happened...his books just weren't doing it for me anymore. Call in change, call it growth, falling off, call it whatever, but I wasn't feeling it. DRIVE ME CRAZY drove me crazy and I couldn't finish it. Unheard of for me. CHASING DESTINY came, but I let her run right past me. However, the title of his ne...more

I didn't even finish this book at all. I started this book yesterday got up to page 258 and realized that I wasn't really into it and that I was making myself read on and on. Tell you the truth I was getting lost on who was who so many characters and not knowing what was going on at all times. I have read many of EJD books in the passed. As I was reading this book I questioned myself wondering who is this author kept taking a look to make sure I was reading EJD book because I have noticed the wr...more

I wasn't sure that I'd like the book when I picked it up. I was burned by The Blonde not too long ago and didn't want to make the same mistake twice. Twice, that's a type of mistake sequence you don't want to make.

Wha?

The language above is the sort of thing that fills the pages of this book, though, surprisingly, it's not as maddening as you might think.

The writing was, on the whole, very good and propelled the story and it's host of genuinely creepy and malicious narcissists along an engaging,...more

I think this is the first Dickey book I've read, although some references in it reminded me of another book, which might have been one he wrote. Anyway, I didn't much care for this one, even though the thought of two hit men pursuing each other seemed a good touch. Way too many pages devoted to describing sex. Worst of all, at the end it's revealed that this is only the first half of the story and one must read the sequel to find out what happens. Not fair!

I liked it...a lot of the book was really drawn out but it did get interesting. Dying For Revenge was the first book I read in this series because I didn't know it was a series at first. I liked Dying For Revenge a lot better though. I'm going to read Waking With Enemies and then read Dying For Revenge again cause I liked it so much. Sleeping With Strangers helped me understand more about Gideon and y he is the way he is. Would recommend.

EJD has done it again! OMG I LOOOVE GIDEON! I loved this book because it kept me intrigued to the point that I couldn't put it down. The book was a mystery that was being unfolded and I just couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next, and once again, he weaves characters from previous books into this one. I would definitely recommend and thanks EJD for another great novel and what I know is the beginning of a great series!

this was one of the slowest books i have read by ejd, I mean the book didn't get really good till the very end then he left you with a frigging cliffhanger!! i was like wtf, so I went to the bookstore just to read the beginning of waking with enemies b/c i had to know who was at the door, I must admit, i was let down as I read the beginning and therefore I didn't complete waking with enemies.

Gritty. Fast paced. A bit confusing at times. Very different from anything I have read before. Some of it flows like poetry. Not sure if I like it or not actually. Was thinking I would not read the other 2 in the series as I had such a hard time getting into the first one, but then as I got near the end I knew that I would have to read them to find out what happens to the main character. Grrr!!!

This was the beginning to the Gideon trilogy and boy I tell ya if you haven't read it you're in for a nice rollcoaster ride! It' extermely suspenseful, action packed, and just a overall joy to read. Gideon is one hitman who doesn't play just ask those who've crossed him! Oh wait, my bad you can't cause their all dead! This trilogy is a must read I give it two thumbs up.

Let me start off by saying; I'm a big fan of Eric Jerome Dickey's work, I'm even bigger fan of sequels. Needless to say I was excited about starting this series. The book started very slow, introduced way too many characters and stories for me to keep up.

The only reason I kept reading is because I was waiting for the story to begin, for me that never happen. I'm sad to say.

I can't wait to start reading "waking with strangers" hopefully this book has a different outcome. My fingers are cross!...more

Good book. Love the Gideon series. I listened to the audiobook, which brought the characters to life (not that the characters needed help). His characters are always well-developed, you feel as though you've known them all along. I think Lola was one of my absolute favorite characters. I think I've listened to this book over 20x's.

Amazing author! Unlike most urban black novelists Eric Jerome Dickey's books remain to be coherent and concise, with great grammar and an excellent choice of vocabulary! The book is gripping, full of suspense and keeps you intrigued throughout! I didn't leave anywhere without reading it! Would recommend to ANYONE! Great book!

I read this book last summer. I don't usually go for action hit man type story lines but this one kept me interested because I was curious about Gideon and his troubled past. Plus he's quite the ladies' man apparently. I did have to keep repeating pages to keep up because it flips back in time and places A LOT.

The book was amazing. I felt like I was there from the first page of the book. There are a lot of sudden changes from where Gidion is and then a flash back to his child hood and what motivates him. He encounters two women along the way that brings their own drama. Very interestin. I really enjoyed this book.

Have been a fan of E.J.D. for yearrrrrs but this book and the sequel was not his greatest works. I stopped reading his books after these 2 and Thieves Paradise, but anticipates his upcoming book, Tempted by Trouble. Hope we will get to see the old E.J.D. that I used to love. :fingers crossed:

I picked this audio book up while on vacation thinking that I would have something to listen to on the ride home. This story made me want to ride and ride and ride! It was suspenseful, funny, erotic, and surprising. So much so that I had to buy the sequel! Excellent work Dickey!

If you want to travel the world. Then who better to do it with then Gideon a Hit man. He takes you on a journey to Paris, England, and other intriguing places that will leave you wishing you were apart of his world. Especially, the explicit sexual encounters.
Claudia
This book took me by surprise! It was a different type of EJD that shifted from the everyday drama with lies, lust, infidelity to a contracted hitman on the run (which still included lies, lust, etc). The Gideon series is my most favorite series of EJD. Absolutely LOVED this book!!
Deborah
Gideon killed his first man at seven years old. He was protecting his mother. Gideon is now a man and he kills for a living. This is part of a Trilogy and each part is excellent. If you like murders and sex then this is the series for you.
Jevon Scott
Ok this one started it all, The Gideon Series has got me going in circles I love it, a hit man that makes all the right moves even when they are wrong, and a slew of characters that just fit and make you want to be apart of it I love it.
Nikk
WOW EJD, what a disappointment. Nothing like the other boooks I have read. I didn't enjoy this book at all. It really didn't get interesting until the second to last chapter. The writing seemed very choppy to me and different than his other writing style. I do like that he attempted to do something different with a story about a hit man I just don't think it was executed very well. There were too many characters to keep with and it seemed more like a tour of London than a novel. I will pass on t...more

This book was definitely a page turner. Full of suspense, drama, and just the right amount of romance to keep you on the edge of your seat as to what will happen next. Gideon is comes off as a man with a take-no-shit attitude.
Abigail
This book was really good. I loved the characters and the way they grew throughout the story. The plot was very unpredictable, which I loved. The sex scenes were very vivid; they jumped off the page.

This book is action packed, erotic, suspenseful and a true page turner. Its my first Eric Jerome Dickey book and I must say I was impressed. Thanks Simone for letting me in on this nice secret.
