My 4 yo and I are enjoying these short early chapter books. There is just enough adventure and danger to make a good story he can follow, as well as enough for me to enjoy. The bonus is these are "edutainment," so we both learn a few new facts. This included some information about Irish Christian monks daily lives. I was initially worried about the "scary" factor of this book for my 4 yo, but the book is well written-- just enough excitement, but nothing that would give night

We spent some time learning about how books were made during the middle ages after reading this book.
My generic review for the Magic Tree House books -
We've loved them all so far. They are fun, easy to read and contain quite a bit of historical information. We use them as read-alouds, but most elementary/middle school kids could read them on their own.

This was the first Magic Tree House Book I owned. When my class was first read Book #1,I wanted to have all of them. When our teacher let my class each choose one book to keep, I wanted the number 2 book, "Knight at Dawn", but someone had already snagged it and the next book down the line was this one. I remember being very put off about it, but I took the book anyway.

I like the book because I happened to learn about the dark ages. I'll probably be wrapping up my series of reviews of books from the Magic Tree House soon. My son has become a strong enough reader that he now reads these books by himself. With all my other reading I'm not sure I can keep up with them as he tears through this series.

This book gets five stars because I really like Vikings.
I wish that Vikings were alive at this time, but they're not.
I liked it two times: When the sea serpent saved Jack and Annie from a sinking Viking ship and when Annie found two little Vikings helmets for Jack and her.
They had to find a jewelled book that was made by Brother Michael. Jack used the book to make the sea serpent come and it brought them to shore.
I felt good when I read the story.

Another Magic Tree House book. This one is set in Ancient Ireland during the time of vikings! Jack and Annie managed to befriend the monks, rescue a special book, evade the vikings, travel out to sea on a viking ship, get saved by a sea monster, and return back home all before their mother misses them!!! Lots of adventure and cliff hangers to keep my children interested!

Jack and Annie go to dark age Ireland during a Viking invasion. They save a book from destruction and meet some of the monks credited with preserving western literature during th dark ages. There's quite a bit of excitement to this book due to the Vikings being hot on Jack and Annie's trail most of the time.

Another fascinating book in the Magic Tree House series. Our girls just love them. This one was book #3 in a four book mini-series where Jack and Annie as Master Librarians have to rescue 4 books. Our girls are eager to read the last book in this group.

Another adventure with Jack and Annie, this time to a monastery in Medieval Ireland where they make illuminated manuscripts and live under the threat of Viking raids. Interesting, a bit informative, and all fun.
