This adventure chilled me from the imagery of ice and snow. It has that magical effect.
I found it really cool that Jack and Annie had aged. I always wondered what that was all about, because some of the covers depict Jack and Annie being the same age, and some make them seem much older.
In the first book, Annie was 7 and Jack was 8 and a half. Now, in book 32, Annie is 9 and Jack is 10.
A nice 2 years have gone by, I love that, when in reality it has been 12 years.

They went to a world in the clouds to save Merlin and Morgan. They had to save them because the ice wizard cast a spell on them so they were white wolves. I learned that Kathleen was a seal. So she could speak the selkie language. the norns told them a lot of stuff so they could find the ice wizards eyeball. Teddy and kathleen brought his sister back and they talked to each other since she was not there for years. To get the eyeball they had to go to the hollow hill where the frost giant lived. ...more
This was not one of the best in the series but it still was a very decent read. Osborne can do much better. Having said that, there are few books for grades 3-4 that are this good and suspenseful. Jack and Annie join Teddy and Katherine to look for Merlin's staff of power. Norse mythology is mentioned in this book although not identified as such.
Our first of this series. Kept my four year old engaged and wanted to read more and more. It is formula writing but there are a few sentences per chapter that try to be a bit more literary. Probably better for reading to oneself (when ability permits) rather than reading aloud.

Norse mythology, yay! But I don't think my little guy even knew that; when I mentioned that Osborne had a book of Norse mythology a few weeks ago he didn't know what that was.
I enjoyed the four adventures into the world of myth and magicians. It was a fun change of pace.

The book I read was:Winter of the Ice Wizard. If you like mystery or magic then you will enjoy this book. The characters are Annie,Jack,Merlin,Morgan,Teddy,Kathleen,Ice Wizard,Nouns, and Frost Giant. It is at Jack and Annie's home.Events trying to fined the Wizards eye.It ends when Annie,Jack,Merlin,Morgan,Kathleen, and Teddy go home and to the tree house.More of the books have famous people. It will give you more knowledge and scheme.

That book was kind of creepy. They had to get his eye ball back for the wizard but when they brought it back to him it wasn't working. But when Teddy and Kathleen brought his sister back it worked perfect.
One of the better written samples of the series. I guess the newer ones are a little more sophisticated and less childlike. This story is fun and has more excitement than the previous books.
I'm obviously too old for these books, [I'm 16] but they're like a guilty pleasure. I'm rating it three stars because they are basic and repetitive. However, they're great books for little kids!
I think my standard review for the Merlin Missions will mostly be 3.5 stars. I like them, but it's tough when the person who is supposed to be enjoying them isn't quite at the age range. The original series was easier to read to a nearly 4yo. She's doing better with the Merlin Missions now, though; I think after we finally finished the Halloween story she realized that the scary parts aren't necessarily scary unless you let them be - interestingly, this particular story talked about fear of the ...more
This was another exciting Magic Tree House adventure. I liked the Norse mythology and the arctic animals woven into the story. It was a real page turner and my oldest kept saying, "just one more chapter..." until we were finished. We have enjoyed this series immensely and look forward to more adventures.

# 32 in the Magic Tree House series and my children BEGGED me to read it to them! I loved the intermingling of Norse myths in this book and the lesson that people may not always tell you the right information.
I thought this book was really amazing and that the characters were really active, but the Gus guy never came up in the story.
Hey, I have to keep up with what my kids are reading, plus I told Samuel I would read it and then we could talk about it. :D

This was the first Magic Tree House book I have read and I enjoyed the vocabulary and the quest that Jack and Annie had to go on to save Merlin and Morgan Le Fay.
They are well-written, exciting and fun books for kids or adults looking for a small diversion.
This book is so good, but maybe a little disgusting to. Why you say? Well its because of the ice wizard he has a missing eye and it pops out in one part its really disgusting.
This MTH book has a premise that was a little grosser than the other stories--the kids that to retreive a stolen eyeball. My kids were intrigued by this and the magic in the story and it kept them entertained.
Dude, who doesn't love these books. now who doesn't.
