The first grade teacher at our local elementary school introduced us to this series. (Thanks JD!)
My daughters enjoyed them all, but this was the favorite of my eldest, who now attends the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival with me each summer. (Thanks Mary Pope Osborne!)

Now this book and the 3 after it are all written AFTER "Christmas in Camelot", so they kind of take place after those events, but it is never really spoken of, so the books were carried on as part of the original series.
This book was very good,I enjoyed the magic of it and the idea that everyday people can achieve magic from all over the regular routines of life were exciting and fun.

Mary Pope Osborne treats readers to an inside look at one of her favorite subjects—the theater. Jack and Annie travel back to Elizabethan England where they meet the Bard of Avon himself, William Shakespeare, and luckily for them he is desperate for two small actors for his latest play!
I love the way Osborne introduces topics that children are not usually exposed to and simply bring them to life and possibly pique their interest. This book compares the theatre then and now and intro More...

This story was one of the many story's of two siblings who travel through time in their magic tree house to learn and discover other eras. Jack and Annie, on this journey, travel back to Shakespearean times where the infamous plays of the theater take place. These books are great for children who are working on becoming more advanced readers. It makes them think and put clues together to understand the plot and the meaning behind it. This series emphasizes the importance of theater and how magic

This series of 4 books is about the kids' personal growth. This one featured Shakespeare and Jack getting over stage fright. I think Jack and Will connected, writer to writer ☺ The book is a wonderful introduction to Shakespeare's works; I wonder how many children want to see A Midsummer Night's Dream after reading this? I know I do! Annie is also her typical adorable self, confident and charming on stage, and stubbornly fighting for an animal's rights behind the scenes. I also enjoyed the part

Stage Fright on a Summer Night by Mary Pope Osborne is my son's favorite Magic Tree House. The time travel story that takes Jack and Annie back to meet William Shakespeare captured his imagination and ended up being the topic of conversation at every meal for about a week.
I don't share my son's enthusiasm for this book but since the goal was for him to read and he did so with enthusiasm, my rating at the end reflects his feelings for the book. My problem with the book is the choice f More...

"A Midsummer Night's Dream" is my favorite play by William Shakespeare, so to have it highlighted in this story was an absolute delight. The bard's appearance was more thrilling for me than for our girls, as they have not read any of his plays yet, but this was a wonderful introduction. I look forward to reading at least parts of some of his plays to them, although they might not be ready for the whole thing yet.

My favorite of the series so far; the story of Jack and Annie's turn at the Globe Theater was less formulaic than some of the previous installments. The time travellers were never in any serious danger but perhaps that is what made the plot develop more organically? I was amused by the sporadic inclusion of lines from Shakespeare's plays, and by the resolution of the subplot involving a tame bear.

17th century London and Shakespeare's Globe are the destinations for Jack and Annie in this installment of the series. London Bridge had not yet fell down and been replaced by another bridge. Jack and Annie help Bill the bard with a production and give him an idea (uncredited) for A Winter's Tale. Sean enjoyed it well enough.

Jack and Annie traveled back to Elizabethan England, also called Merry Olde England. Queen Elizabeth had black teeth because she ate too many sweets. She went 20 years without looking in a good mirror. There was a rule in the Globe Theater that no girls were allowed on the stage because it was against the law.

My daughter and I have been listening to these books on CD as well as reading them aloud. I'm surprised how much a three year old has gotten into them. They are fun and well written and perfect for young kids. I only give them three stars because as an adult, I'd love to have more of each adventure!

I learned about William Shakespeare who wrote plays and some people called him Will. Puck was the guys who led people to the stage. I learned about Merry Old England and they called it Olde. Queen Elizabeth was in it and her teeth were black from too much sugar.

Really liked this one and enjoyed all the quotes from Shakesphere and the facts about him, Queen Elizabeth and the Globe Theater. I also learned that he coined the words "upstairs," "downstairs," "good riddance," "for goodness sakes", and "shooting star." Who knew?

Jack and Annie were going to somewhere in the Magic Treehouse and they found out that the song London Bridge was real. And they went to a place for a show. And they were missing two people and so Jack and Annie went for the missing people and Jack didn't go.

Shakespeare made the play "A Midsummer's Night Dream". They performed it at the Globe Theater and there were 3000 people there, so it must have been a popular play. They performed it for Queen Elizabeth the first at her palace too.

I'm obviously too old for these books, [I'm 16] but they're like a guilty pleasure. I'm rating it three stars because they are basic and repetitive. However, they're great books for little kids!

The book successfully introduces kids to historical facts about Shakespeare and his theater, while also having a fun story about Jack and Annie and their adventures in "merry olde England".

Jack and Annie were supposed to make daytime into night. They did a play with Shakespeare. Annie freed a bear and dressed it up and put it in a real play because it was a tame bear.

Great transitional book for students. It was a fun enjoyable read that most students would love. It has some pictures as well.
