I can't tell you the story. It's just too sad. Too heartbreaking. But, what I can tell you is what a beautiful beautiful story it is! Haven has got to be one of the best heroines ever! Sensitive but yet strong. So so brave and confident. And, River, well what can I say? He's just perfect! Great looking and smart! Knows just what to say. Supportive and protective. And, then there's Roman. So lost and trying to find his way. My heart broke for him. I was so freakin' sad for him. And, near the end, ...more

All right so I am going to start here. I was already a huge fan of R.K.Ryals. That being said.. Holy smokes. I loved this book!

Sometimes in life we need more. We want more. We desire more. Does this make us a bad person? Do we have to live in the mold that has been carved out for us, or can we challenge the mold? Make our own mold and start a new path.

I liked this book so much, and since the beginning of the book I was so gunning for Haven and River to get their issues worked out and be together. Haven she's just so pure there was literally nothing, flaws or otherwise wrong with her, she just had this perspective on life and you couldn't help but fall in love with her. River he's trying to do what's right by his family's name and not really in it for himself, that is until Haven comes along and challenges him, and makes him see things in a di ...more

Unbelievable! Author R.K. Ryals is genius! Oh my goodness I loved this story!
Where expectations and responsibilities are all we have had and it's shaped you into who you are, but leaves you with a hope of needing something more...then there's nothing left to do but leap for faith and reach for something better!
That's what this story brings. Two people from two different worlds. Both fractured with past circumstances. But both holding on to something that is at the brim for release to complet
Let me first start off by saying R.K. Ryals is probably one of if not my all time favorite author (aside from my childhood love of Judy Blume of course). R.K. Ryals is beyond talented, her writing is always amazing. Once I book up one of her books I CANNOT put it down which is what happened last night... It was 1 in the morning before I got to sleep all thanks to The Singing River. I said to myself I would just start it read a few pages... That did not happen! Not f

Today I read a book that touched my heart. This was about strength, heartache, and freedom.

Are we to be the person that others expect us to be even if we lose who we truly are in return? Are we allowed to go after what our heart feels is right even if others look down on us? These are things I imagine River thinking. He has always lived his life by the rules. Doing everything that was expected of him as a "Brayden" but is it enough? Does River have the strength to go for what he wants, his drea

Utterly amazing story! Well done AGAIN R.K!

This is a love story, a story of learning oneself, a story of love and decication and so much more!

You start off meeting Haven an amazingly strong willed young woman, born into poverty but learning from a wonderful mother how to accept the cards you are dealt and be strong. Haven works as a waitress to make ends meet for her and her mom while also taking care of a neighbor who turns to be her best friend!

River a young man from old money doing what his

The Singing River is aptly titled, not just because of the legend in the book, but because the book itself has its own song. It flows, almost melodically from the pages as you read. The Singing River is an emotional and heart wrenching look into the lives of two very different people, each broken in their own way. R.K. Ryals manages to convey the deepest feelings through her words. The reality of those feelings, strikes you at your core. Each time I read one of her books, I don't think I can be ...more
Wow. I was pleasantly surprised at the writing. So poetic, inspiring, and passionate. I love this author's style, the story, and especially the characters. The heroine is one of the best. An old soul with anguish and determination. She's a role model. The development of her romance with River is beautiful. They have deep connections that have definitely turned into love and triumphed their differences.
I really loved this book. And I can't wait for the Roman's story.
I am a huge fan of RK Ryals; her books never disappoint. I’ve had this book on my Kindle for some time now, and I do not know what took me so long to read it, but I am glad I finally did. I usually read Paranormal books, and this was a nice change of pace. I especially like how each chapter you see it from a different characters point of view. IE: one chapter will be Haven, the next will be River.

I loved this book. It wasn't a full length novel, yet longer than a typical novella, but it was very well written; aside from a missed word or two. Being based in a small town, it read laid back and some may say kind of slow, but I loved the slow build up of the story and at the end, all of the questions I had were revealed with the potential for another book too. Although Haven liked simple things, she didn't come across as a small town girl. She didn't come from wealth, but her mother loved he ...more

This book is amazing! It is not very often that I read a book that is out of the paranormal genre, but when the author asked me to review her book I am so glad I said yes. This book touched my heart and I could not put it down. It is such an emotional story of love, loss and strength.

I loved all of the characters in this book and reading everything they had each been through. Haven Ambrose is by far one of my favorite characters I have ever read about. She is such a strong and amazing girl, work

First let me say that it is no secret that I adore this writer. I can say without a doubt that she is my all-time favorite author, out of both big press and indie. Her ability to capture your full attention with her uniqueness and never let go is a rarity in such a growing genre. With that said, The Singing River is her best work yet! It’s haunting, brutally honest and beaut
I'm having a book hangover with this one. You know how you walk around in a daze sometimes after reading a really great book? Yeah, I'm there. I should probably say something poetic about the story line and how it felt like a river, but at this point I'd probably drown in the metaphor. The Singing River was beautiful and heartbreaking and wonderful. So much so that I'm planning on starting it over again in a few days. I'll refresh my review then, but for now, here's a brief overview...

Responsibility is a Bitch...The South is still stuck on old money, blue blood, and the wrong side of the tracks. The wealth groups and classes don't mix, it's always been that way, especially for the Brayden's. With their father murdered a year ago, River went off to Harvard and Roman lives with their stepmother Marissa. Roman's life is in shambles. He's flunking school, on drugs, and gotten a girl pregnant. It's time that River confronts not only his demons, but the ones haunting his brother.

My Review~
WOW What a great emotional READ! I absolutely adored and loved this book! There is always hope if you are broken and need escape. That is what the book is about. How three unlikely individuals come to connect and help each other in their time of need and when they are at rock bottom in life. Two different classes of people who help fix the other and find a
Sometimes, when you finish a book I find myself having to just take some time to absorb it all, this was one of those books. This book had so much in it, love, loss, strength, perseverance, class differences, addiction, struggle and hardship and as much as it is gut-wrenching at times I also found myself almost with a sense of calm after I'd finished, as if things certain things had been put to rights, whether that is actually the case or not though, remains to be seen. I found this to be a real ...more
Wow, this book was simply amazing! Very well written. It made me really feel for the characters, the issues they had to live through and the strength they had to solve their problems.
Haven was a very moral character. I loved her strength and will to fight. She wasnt perfect, she had her share of troubles and she was willing to make the most out of her life wih her own strength.
She was one of those characters you looked upto and touched your heart.

This is R.K. Ryals' first contemporary (non-paranormal) work, and while it is unlike her other books, it is IMHO her absolute best. There are some authors that NEED the paranormal or the fantasy to make them good writers. Strip that away and you've got a bland story. Not so with Ms Ryals, who relies on deep emotions, likeable characters, and strong prose that reads like poetry. This story felt particularly personal to me, in a way that took the story to another level.

I've never read any books from R.K. Ryals before this but after reading this book I look forward to reading more. This story was awesome about a 19 year old Haven Ambrose working pay check to pay check and living in a run down trailer with her mother, that are poor working class but they never let that bother them in their lives. Sure they dream of a nice car and a working A/C but that is not how they are. River Brayden a 20 year old Harvard student, and a blue blood from old money, comes home f ...more

This is one of my favorite books of 2014 I have read thus far. I am torn though, I don't know whether I like Haven or River better! Haven is a simple girl who lives with her mom in a very broken down trailer. What she and her mother don't have in money, they make up for tenfold in love. She isn't perfect, but embraces her flaws. Things we all could learn from. Conversely, River has been groomed his whole life to take over the family business. As much as
I'm giving this book an average grade.
I really like the main idea, and the story has potential, but I felt like something was missing here.
I had a feeling like everything happens in five days, everything is so rushed, the characters could have been more developed, the romance lacked chemistry..

I've read some really nice reviews, so I've expected some nice writing, just more depth in general.
The whole book could have been given more attention and detail.
But overall, a cute story.

This book flowed like a river. It had moments of soothing calm, churning rapids and still pools as it mimicked the characters' lives. R.K. Ryals paints a beautiful picture. She has a way of connecting you to her characters. You almost feel the sweat on your brow from the hot Mississippi sun. You are tethered to the pain and sorrow felt by the Brayden's as well as the Haven's love for her mother.

This story is so much more than just falling for a girl from the wrong side of the tracks. Haven is a

A few tears of sadness however beautiful story.
This is a hard review to write! This has so many emotions jumping off the page at you. I love this Romeo/Juliet type of story. One comes from nothing but has a heart bigger than Fort Knox... the other has money and security yet is hallow and void of life. The beauty of this story captured my heart and my attention. My only issue is I feel like I need more. More of the myth and more of Haven and River. I am hoping for more in another installment of this couple... Too many open ends... please let ...more
I guess I should begin by saying that this is my favorite book to date by author R.K. Ryals. I'm not sure I have enough words to describe how much I loved this book. Such a beautifully written story that grabbed my heart and didn't let go.

With so many emotions swirling around in my head as I try to write this review, I can't help but get choked up all over again. This book has pain, heartache and sacrifice but it also has healing, love and new beginnings. A truly elegant story with relatable cha
A pretty good standalone contemporary romance. This book was interesting and had great characters but didn't really capture me the way R. L. Ryal's Redemption series did. I loved River and Haven and their sweet love story that defied expectations and crossed class boundaries. I also really liked the themes in the book about appearances and public image being deceiving. Even though River appeared to have the perfect life from the outside he was more lost and alone than Haven was in her nearly des ...more
I didn't finish it.

What grabbed my interest in the blurb was the setting-- Pascagoula. That's not terribly far from here, and I was curious to see how the author (a native of Mississippi) would present the region. Also, there was mention of a legend ("the singing river") that I'd never really heard about.

Now, if I'd stayed with the book, I assume there would eventually have been more about the legend, but it was just taking too long getting there, and it became clear that the story was really m
