This book, like The Shack, is good for readers whose response to God is characterized by guilt and fear. Although the message is the same in both books, I did not feel this book was nearly as good. I think some of this was a result of a fictional vs. non fictional approach to the subject. Wayne Jacobsen, the author of He Loves Me, seemed to be more literal in his interpretation of Scriptures and sometimes I imagined him with that "I got it you don't evangelical smile" on his face. This was recommended as the ideal follow-up to "The Shack", and I can see why... it exposes how we all are living either motivated by fear, or motivated by love. That all of this world's institutions use the motivation of fear ("If you don't study, you'll flunk," "If you don't go to work you won't get paid," "If you don't please God you're going to hell.").
And that God wants us to stop fearing Him, and to respond to His love... this book goes ...more

At the time I read this book, I didn't have much hope in a personal god. It gave that hope to me at the time. It's been a couple of years since I read it. Sometime soon I want to take another look at in light of what I've learned since.

I have been enjoying Wayne Jacobson and his work with The God Journey podcast - this is a perfect extension of those works. Fantastic book in the realm of relational church and journey one has with God.

a. This might have been a good book (to me) if I wasn’t in such a place in my relationship with the Lord.

Awesome book! If you haven't read it, read it! If you've read it but don't feel the same as I do, you didn't get it. Read it again.

A practical book about forming a spiritual relationship with God. In this book, God is understood to be a loving father who wants a relationship with you based on love not fear. Each chapter ends with individual questions for self-reflection and group questions for those who are reading together. The book opens a pathway for a relationship that can free one from the bondage of shame, guilt and concern about what others think. It helped ground me deeper in God's love and the promise that this g...more

This is an amazing book about how God really loves us. This book strips away so many notions of religion and reveals a Father who is very different from the one we often picture in our lives. Life changing.
