This is the third volume of the Young Trailers series, through which I am revisiting my childhood, as Altsheler was one of my favorite authors. Although there may be too much conversation among the characters for contemporary tastes, I still found the book interesting and worthwhile reading for its evocation of the frontier experience, combining the joys of a virgin nature and the ever-present threat of Indian attack.
