Merchantman is a quick shot of adrenalin and action to whet the appetite. Such a treat to see Sigrid Novak again (The Girls From Alcyone) in this short story appetizer, and definitely a teaser to Cary Caffrey's sequel to The Girls From Alcyone - Freelancer. The story draws you in immediately with a 'blast' and the momentum doesn't stop until the last word. Hurry up, Caffrey! I need more Sigrid...

Caffrey stays true to the Alcyone multi-verse with this latest tale. This stand-alone interlude adds even more depth to Sigrid's world and continues the spirit of science fiction adventure that Caffrey masterfully established in THE GIRLS FROM ALCYONE.
The awesome-sauce that is Sigrid Novak continues to tantalize my literary taste buds. The short story titled Merchantman by Cary Caffrey continues the story of Sigrid with a sample of what is to come in the second book in the Girls from Alcyone series. Simply put, this story does not disappoint.

Merchantman picks up a short time after the first book leaves off. Sigrid starts off our story on a covert mission to procure supplies for her sisters-in-arms on their new world. She negotiates her way in...more

I have been invested in Cary Caffrey's world since I first read about Sigrid and the gang in The Girls from Alcyone, so I was thrilled when I found out that this story was coming out.

Caffrey lives up to his bestselling Science Fiction Adventure name with Merchantman. Tons of action and world building, all in his great immersive style.

This is one for when you want to escape and have some fun!

What I liked:

I loved The Girls from Alcyone so this was an immediate buy for me, and I wasn't disappointed. Another exciting adventure with the lovely, kick-ass Sigrid, a space station, betrayal, and technology from the super-advanced to the seriously dodgy. It fulfilled all my main wishlist items for scifi/space opera.

What I didn't like:

I can't really say there was anything I didn't like, aside from it was over too quickly. The only reason I couldn't rate this five stars like TGfA is that it j...more
Apparently this is the beginning of book 2 in the Girls from Alcyone series. A deal goes wrong and Sigrid has to save her crew and stop the bad guys from passing certain information to badder guys. Nice episode. This piece was also free, the whole book isn't. The cover is more interesting than in the first book, although Sigrid's boobage may be a tad exaggerated.
It's been a while since I've been able to see Sigrid (of The Girls From Alcyone fame), and so it was exciting to see that she was being featured in this shorter piece, in preparation for the next full length TGFA novel. For fans of Cary Caffrey, you won't be disappointed (other than not seeing Sigrid together with Suko). It does tend to mislead you, near the beginning, into thinking maybe Sigrid is going to get through this entire scenario without a lot of action, but fear not faithful travelers...more
An interesting little short on Sigrid, she learns a hard lesson in life.
Apparently it's actually a chapter from the forthcoming sequel to TGFA, though it stands well on it's own as an adventure involving Sigrid. Plenty of kickass action and moves at a rapid pace. I liked TGFA, but if this short story/preview chapter is any indication, the sequel is going to be bigger and badder than it's predecessor.

Merchantman is a short story that takes place before the upcoming sequel to The Girls From Alcyone, Freelancer.

It follows Sigrid on a trade mission for Lady Hitomi. My only complaint... it's too short! If you liked Girls from Alcyone then this will whet your appetite for a short time while waiting for Freelancer.

Excellent short story and good read until the actual Sequel comes out this year. Highly recommended!
