It is very obvious from the beginning that the author, Robert Adams is a Native American born Tlingit who was born and raised around Yakutat, Alaska. The author writes with great sensitivity as he quickly draws the reader into the Tlingit culture and history that is centered around Yakutat as he writes about the fictional Tlingit patriarch, Clayton and his family and friends, who are both Native American and Anglo. Robert Adams is Tlingit Indian from Yakutat, Alaska, which is about fifty-five miles north of Dry Bay. He is Raven (Yeil), Coho (L’uknax.ádi), and of the Frog House. He grew up commercial fishing with his father and brothers both in Yakutat and Dry Bay. He now lives in Juneau, Alaska with his family.
