The woman jolted in the guard's arms, and raised one of her own hands, which was glowing red. Like magnets, their palms slammed together.
"Oh, shit," I mumbled, realizing what this was. "He's found his mate."

3.5 stars. I won't lie to you and say that there weren't some things wrong with this book, but there was so much to like that I found myself willing to overlook a few things which might normally bother me (lots of mentions of spring green eyes and copious amounts of sputtering). I wasn't s

Others have already given a general synopsis of King Hall, so I'm going to skip that and move on to my review.

First, I want to say that for a debut novel and beginning of a fantasy series, this book is very, very good. It is well crafted and has fantastic character development. If you are a lover of fantasy/paranormal/romance and enjoy the new adult genre, definitely pick this book up and be prepared to get sucke

It's been a couple of days since I read this, and I still maintain that it deserves my 5 star rating, but...this is not a perfect book. Allow me to elucidate.

To me the synopsis is very misleading, this is not a story about a revolution, it's a story about friendship and love. It reads very much like a typical YA in the ages and actions of our main characters, but the only difference is that instead of 16, we have them at 19 (I think it was). The main girl, Lily, went through commoner, or non-m
Every once in awhile you come across a book that just GRABS YOU! King Hall had me emotionally invested in the first few pages and kept me riveted till the end. This is a book that left me wanting MORE!

King Hall is a “college” for Mystical beings to hone their abilities as they become adults in the Mystical community. You might think, yeah I read this before, but let me tell you this isn't your everyday mystical educational school. First of all its at college level so the this book isn't for the

A galley copy was given to me through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I might have been a little too honest.

Not going to lie, I only got through one chapter. And as is only fair, I'm not going to rate it since I didn't get very far.

But what a doozy of a chapter.

It honestly reads like bad fanfiction. You can tell what kind of book this is right off, since it opens in a sex-ed class with the teacher informing them that 'mystics' are "naturally more endowed" than 'commoners'.

Yes. It sta
So what's worse than reading yet another two star book?

Reading a two-star book that started out as a five-star book and then went down the crapper.

I'm waffling a little bit and would rather give this one star, but I'm going to stick with two because I didn't put it down until I finished it.

I'm not one to just pick up books on a whim or purchase without trying the sample (learned that lesson the hard way), but when I got to the end of the sample for King Hall I couldn't click the "buy now" but

Shut the front door! This is Scarlett Dawn's first book??!!!
For her first DEBUT book it was PHENOMENAL! :)

The story has action, drama, love, loss, friendship and MORE!

I thought it was captivating, entertaining, delicious and more.... (please be sure to check my entire review of this book on my blog on July 18th!)

Anyone who loves the paranormal genre will LOVE THIS BOOK!

Honestly, when I was first asked to review this book I kind of gave a mental shudder. The cover gave me a 'paranormal romance' kind of vibe, and I've been burned out on those for a while now. However, the blurb classified it as a new adult fantasy, so I went ahead and downloaded it. But I also managed to put off reading it for as long as possible, because I couldn't stomach the thought of yet another paranormal boarding school st
Is it possible to have so much fun, heartbreak, humor and story in one book? If King Hall is an example of what to expect from author Scarlett Dawn, we are in for amazing reading for sure! This author has set a high bar to best, and I have no doubt she will! Written for the New Adult paranormal lovers, the sexual/sensual tension is slightly toned down, but I have to say, there are some moments that run the gamut from hot to humorous, honest! The setting? King Hall is like a university for parano ...more
I have seen so many people raving about this book that I had to buy it. Now I know why. That was an excellent ride. It was definitely a different take on the paranormal world and I LOVED it. I really liked how all the mysticals worked together. Normally you have one group (vampires typically) fighting another group (normally shifters) or there is some type of antagonistic behavior between them, they rarely get along. In this book, they HAVE to work together. The bond between Lily, Jack, Pearl, a ...more
I hate giving one stars. I think I've only ever given one other. But I hate feeling unfulfilled and cheated at the end of a book, too.

Here are the reasons I'm giving this a one:

--There is no resolution at the end. I'm ok with cliffhangers, but I'm not okay with a cliffhanger in place of any real resolution whatsoever.
--It is categorized as a romance, which gave me certain expectations, but those expectations weren't met (What I expect out of a romance is that there should at least be a couple th

She cleared her throat, lifting an extra-large banana high into the air. "Mysticals are naturally more endowed than commoners." With her other hand, she raised a regular sized banana, holding them side by side. Point made.

I'll take one mystical, please.

King Hall was nothing like I expected. I pictured it like a cross between Twilight and the Elemental series by Brigid Kemmerer. I was picturing love triangles and jealousy and romance and smirking. This book was not those things. Fir

I give this 3.75 stars

Usually when I like the male lead of a book it means I want him and I must have him. This is the first time where I really liked the male lead and I felt like the two leads were perfect for each other, SO PERFECT that I was impatient and anxious to read about the two of them. I skimmed through the book and was disappointed by how little they had progressed which I then preceded to download the second book to satisfy my need to read about them being more than friends hehe >:)

Holy crap, I love this book! It was unique, fresh, witty, and a whole lot more! I can't wait to read the next one!!

King Hall is Ms Scarlett's debut novel, and I must say I really enjoyed reading this book. It was by no mean a perfect read, being a "first", King Hall has its flaw. But I thought it deserve to have Five stars due to it's freshness, unique storyline, and witty dialogs. Not to mention very likeable characters!

In the world of Com (non-mystical) and Mys (mystical), each mystical c
Holy Mother of a Cliffhanger!!!

“Once upon a time, at the beginning of the year, I had lost my heart. With these completely different Mysticals, I had found it again in them.”

Emily Ruckler is different. Tiny different, with solid red hair and powers she hasn’t even begun to understand. Only a few people know what Emily really is…two are dead, one has left and one has sworn to complete secrecy. If anyone ever finds out, Emily’s life is as good as over; see, she isn’t supposed to exist at all. Em
Really good! And clever with not one but four main characters. Review coming as soon as I've read the whole serie (don't want to stop reading right now so writing will have to wait).

More than 5 mystical stars!
It’s been hours since I’ve shut down my Kindle. I still don’t know how to write this review. I want so badly to express all the feelings and intense emotions I experienced on this journey. How can I write something to convince other readers they just have to read these books?
Oh Hell, I can
Don't read this if you crave strong main leads.
Don't read this if you look for romance.
Don't read this if you hate weak world buildings.
Don't read this if you have low tolerance for immaturity.
Don't read this if you get put to sleep by slow, not-thought-through plots.
Don't read this if you rage at unsatisfying endings.

Do read this if you want to make up your own mind.
I didn't know what to think of a book that opened with a subject of jumbo dicks. Apparently, everybody in that school is hung like a horse, because they are *mystical beings*, and that's just one of the perks. I was left to conclude that wielding of such powers needed stern education. Fair enough.

That being said, it was one of the rare mature moments of the novel.

I loved this book! Kings Hall is a new adult novel with paranormal/fantasy elements. I thoroughly enjoyed this world and the characters that the writer created. The world consists of Coms (which are regular humans) and Mysticals (supernaturals) which were categorized into four separate groups: vampire, mage, elemental, and shifter. Each group has their own ruler. This story is about the training of four college-age prodigies who are next in line to rule. These prodigies bond with each other and ...more

Scarlett Dawn's debut was great! Yeesh got that out. Talk about being in a situation! I got the cover reveal and have had the book about 3 weeks. Then I read it and now fin it in the "to do"pile. I have been so behind. I have summer and the beach to blame. So much time to read, no time to write the reviews. Thank the heavens I use my notes and hi-lights to save things. This had a few things going on, first it is paranormal, then Young Adult paranormal. Some will appreciate the pg13 rating and I

Here’s what I love about “King Hall,” it is not a cliche New Adult/YA novel.

1. There is no falling in love angst, because on page one Lilly has already found her Mate.

2. There is no slut shaming

I met Scarlet Dawn on FB and knew she was a new Author with a book to be released soon. I asked the title of her book and where her website was. I always like to check out an Author’s website before I purchase their books. In talking I found out this is her first release, no website yet but a WIP so I told her I would read the book when it released.

Okay, honesty here. This was not like anything I’ve read before, the beginning was slow I thought and then I had to remind myself new Author new book
I can't give this more than 3 stars. Sorry but I don't find it that original, it's just a mix-up of your usual crowd: vampires, shifters, mages all thrown together in a shallow sketch of a harry potter-like divided world.
I guess it has it's entertaing parts but I just feel like the characters are a bit shallow. I did not find Lilly likable, she's a crying mess one second and than a cold blooded killer the next, I don't know about you, but unelss you're bipolar or something, that seems a bit ext

This book was so good. I’ve never seen a plot like it, I literally couldn’t guess what would happen next at all. It was so unique every major event felt so unexpected. So the plot and world building here was what drew me in and kept me hooked.

However there was one major thing I didn’t quite like. It was something in the writing style. The writing read like YA which is fine, nothing wrong with that, but for some reason (maybe so the characters could have le sexe) the author made the main charact

I cried within the first five minutes!!!! Then ten minutes later I'm laughing like a loon!!!! This book was amazing!!! I've never read anything like it and I loved it!!! It was unusual but a good unusual, an unusual you should read!!!

I read this book one sitting and I got to sleep at 3:45am

I happened upon this novel by chance. I was merely browsing the books available to request for an advanced copy and saw that the second one in this series was up for grabs. After reading a quick summary I was like, well this sounds interesting and right up my ally. So I bought it for 87c …and for 87c it was rather great. Again 87c..bargain find. Just saying.

Very convoluted and unexplained at times. Plus I felt the narration was more of a teen read rather than a new adult. And for someone who just lost her 'mate', Lily was back in the sack again too many times to count, apparently. Plus for all the sex that was apparently going on, we didn't get to see any. Even this prude likes some sexy times. Full review to come.

I have to say King Hall is in a tie for my #1 book for 2013! This is a fantastic book and I hope, if you're reading this, that you'll go pre-order the book or buy it after it becomes live Aug 1, 2013.!

Scarlett has written an amazing book! It's packed with lots of great drama, some sexy scenes, lots of strategy. 5+ stars!
I was a little skeptical about this book because I didn't really understand the description but I have to say this was one of the best books I've ever read.I can't even compare this book with any other,it was just so different. The best thing about it was the story, it was very intriguing and so many things happened in just one book.At first I felt like there was no beginning,I almost thought I somehow started reading not the first but the second book of the series.Later I quickly realised that ...more
