Set before the migration to the east coast, clans Linsee and Skaht are on the verge of starting a bloodfued and getting themselves thrown out of Horseclans membership. Milo tells them the story of when the clans Lindsay and Scott were accepted into the Horseclans and the surrounding events.

Within that story he also tells of the time right after the nuclear cataclysm when he gathered a group of teens from LA/Ehlai and taught them to survive, first trying to farm and later as nomads.

The Horseclans series is probably the best blend of fantasy and SiFi I have ever read. Pretty much something for everyone in these books. Great characters, epic storyline, fantastic writings. My highest recommendation

Stories within stories...

So far: it's before the conquest of the Karaleenos (don't ask if I've spelled these right, probably NOT) and the Ehleenee. The Horseclans are still on the plains; before Milo went walkabout for a couple hundred years. To quell hostilities between two of the clans he's telling a story of about 200 years after the Great Dying, but within that story he keeps bleeping back to just 2 generations after the Apocalypse (don't know why, quite yet).
