You can't belong to the Thieves' Guild if you can't break into the Thieves' Guild. When Terizan dropped out of the secret passage, past the net, and into the Inner Sanctum, she was astonished to discover that no one else had ever made it that far. Unfortunately, neither Terizan nor the Guild are thrilled about the sudden perception that she's the best thief in Oreen – the ...more

I didn't know, in my recent spree of buying lesbian fantasy, that this counted. I know Tanya Huff has LGBT hero/ines elsewhere, but I bought Swan's Braid purely because it's Tanya Huff and I've enjoyed her other short story collections. Terizan is a fun heroine -- morally ambiguous at times, but fun, able to take care of herself and ask for help when she needs it. There's not much detail to the world, only what's necessary for each story, but at least it doesn't get bogged down in unnecessary de ...more

Fantasy literature is rife with ‘clever thief’ protagonists for the vicarious entertainment of the virtuous, like Bilbo Baggins, but most of them are not even female, let alone lesbians. Swan’s Braid and other Tales of Terizan gives us the wily but honorable Terizan, who waltzes away from the first story in her collection with the affection of a female mercenary with whom she maintains a casual romance for the remainder of the book. Most of Terizan’s adventures aren’t love stories, but ...more

While I am not generally a fan of Tanya Huff, I found this somewhat short group of stories featuring the canny and witty not to mention, charmingly intrigued with women, (or perhaps I should say one woman), Terizan the thief to be a relatively fun romp in an alternate world that is both Middle-Eastern and points all along the Silk Road inspired. Huff is able to write about a woman who is attracted to other women in such a way that it does not make the stories seem trite or biased towards any ...more

Great collection of Tanya Huff's thief, Terizan, and how she deals with the bureaucracy of the Guild while practicing her craft. Terizan is not only the best thief, she is also practical - she joins the Guild for the insurance and retirement benefits. She has an odd moral center that makes her even more likable. Stealing is acceptable but allowing a less skilled thief to take a job that could cost him his life - not acceptable. Allowing a corporate religion to consume the powers of the ...more

I thoroughly enjoyed all these stories! Some were stronger than others, but overall they were all great.

Swan’s Braid and Other Tales of Terizan is a collection of short stories by Tanya Huff, all featuring the thief Terizan. Terizan is a great thief, and the Tribunes of the Thieves’ Guild feel just a tad threatened by her skills and ambition–thus they continually maneuver her into difficult and dangerous assignments. Good thievery plots are hard to pull off, because the author has to be very on the ball to keep up with reader expectations of cleverness. Tanya Huff does a fantastic job of it. I ...more

A nice collection of the stories of Terizan, the best thief in her home City. She's the only candidate for the Thieve's Guild who ever manages to actually complete the trial to join.

There is humour as well as good story telling in this collection by Huff. She also has a little bit of romance, in that she falls in love with a mercenary named Swan. Yes, the Swan who's braid is the title of this collection of stories.

A very enjoyable collection of short stories about a clever thief living in a magical far eastern type land. Well written and with humorous and suspense

This is a collection of short stories featuring Tanya Huff's thief, Terizan. They're good, fun tales, with a lot of wit and cleverness, and some good takes on traditional fantasy ideas.
