Bored with the exercises of religious ritualism and parched by the teaching of dry dogma, man searches for a way back home to the place of His presence. Unfortunately, this journey inward is a "road less traveled" and too few have found the way. Gene Edwards, the master storyteller, has gathered together the writing of three Christian mystics from the seventeenth century: ...more

There are not enough words to describe my experience while reading this book. I need to chew on spiritual meat when I read Christian books and this is one that I will go back to often. I challenge you to read this book and you'll understand what I mean, my words and praise are simply not enough, experience it for yourself.

All I have to say is a resounding WOW! This has now become my new favorite book. I confess I have never read a single thing by Gene Edwards and this book predominantly is not even written by him. He gives a brief biography in the very beginning of the 3 people he has compiled writing from. The passages from Guyon, Fenelon and Molinos brought me to a place in Jesus that I have been longing for. The spiritual insights given here were both confirmation and new revelation. This book I will be keepin ...more

Of the 3 authors whose works are compiled in this book, my wife and I related to Fenelon and Guyon the best, and their words are true and wise, humbling us and moving us to be in a closer and deeper relationship with our Father. Really great book, highly recommend it for anyone wanting to know how to get closer to God, and (in a more practical sense) be a better person, love more, be more patient and kind, and make better decisions. Good stuff.

Gene Edwards is the editor of this little book of selected letters, not its author. I have often returned to it over the years. It's easy to read and perfect for times when you need something to revive your spiritual life and draw you closer to God - but it has to be short! A reading is just a page or two, often less.

Gene Edwards compiled this book of writings by three late-1600's contemporaries of each other all writing about the place of intimacy in our spiritual walks. Sometimes you hear them referred to as the mystics. But whatever term you use, these people (Francois Fenelon, Michael Molinos, and Jeanne Guyon) had definitely tapped in to something special. I'd not heard of Molinos before but had at least heard the other names. This book has been sitting on the shelf for close to 10 years, I'd guess, an ...more

Difficult to rate, this devotional book has selected writings from three great Christian writers of the 1600s.

I'm not sure to what extent my issues were with the translation and to what extent to meanings that have changed over time. It was great to read their perspectives and gain from their experiences.

The book is divided into three broad sections and within each section there are selections grouped by each author. That structure provides some continuity to what is always a disjointed (becaus

I was already a fan of the writers compiled in this book, Fenelon, Guyon, and Molinos so it was only natural for me to enjoy 100 Days. Edwards selects what he sees as the most relevant aspects of their writings for today and compiles them into one book. He does a great job. Each of the writers are giving spiritual advice from their own rich experience of walking with the Lord. Their advice, in the form of letters to their friends, stands true today. It's something easy to pick up and read as a d ...more

This book makes me feel like a pleb. First, I had never heard of these apologists. Second, their bios made me wonder why I had not heard of them. And finally, having read several of each of the apologists' writings, I am reminded of how plebeian our current writers have become trying to write for the masses. None of that here! I am transfixed by the complexity of their thoughts. This is my short evaluation of this book. I did not want to wait 3months to give a review. However, I will update this ...more

It was insightful but of course too repetitive to read as a book, so instead this is better off as a breakfast book. Something to get inspired with and reminded of the virtues each morning. I'd consider this as a good stocking stuffer or an addition to a small gift for a friend who typically likes to read Christian tidbits.

This is a wonderful collection of little known authors, providing easy to read and understand devotional readings. I completely enjoyed the readings as well as becoming familiar with the authors. I will return to this book again and again and plan to make it a source of daily inspiration.

This book is my source of grounding alongside my bible. 3 French philosophers lead on a journey of finding that inner place where we dare to be faced with the mirror to see who we are and to confirm and affirm our faith.

This book I'm still working my way through. The thoughts in this book are thought provoking for those who want a closer walk with the Lord. Relevant today as it was when the writers wrote their pieces. Glad someone put these all together

This is? S a very good beginners book about learning how to pray and come closer to God. They use a lot of ideas that Saint Frances Dr Sales said.
