Good second chance story for Joe and Ellie. They had married young and quickly after meeting. Things went well at first until Ellie's inability to get pregnant caused her great stress and depression. She started taking her frustration out on Joe, picking arguments. Joe finally offered to give her a divorce and joined the army to leave her in peace. He told her to wait to file the papers until after he was done with the army so if something happened to him she would get the benefits. While he was ...more
I liked this one a lot. I generally do like Hannay's books. This isn't a big story and the issues aren't dramatic, but Hannay makes you believe they matter. The characters don't have big melodramatic scenes-- they aren't that kind of people, being a stoic soldier and a outback cattlewoman. But it's clear that their issues are important and painful to them. It's a good read.
A soldier returns home to a probably divorce situation, not having seen his wife for three years. Both Joe and Ellie bring some fairly complicated emotional baggage to the table, but being rained in for Christmas on an isolated cattle property also brings the chance for time out, and time to 'talk'. Sweet and rather lovely, this romance makes you believe in the power of love. A charming, warm read.

This is one of Barbara Hannay's better books. It is a pity it is released in a Harlequin Romance edition as it is a book that a lot of men would possibly read however that is not likely when it is in a Harlequin paperback with a pink cover. I enjoyed reading this entertaining and well written story.
I usually eschew divorce romances, but this one worked for me. plus, it's Australia, what's not to love?!
