While Laermer discusses very interesting trends and makes some astute and poignant observations, the informal and highly subjective approach he takes ultimately revokes much of his legitimacy as a trend spotter. 2011 is more a work of social commentary than a straightforward look at future trends and discussion of potential implications. I enjoy future trend books. Laermer's book left me disappointed, however. Many of his observations and predictions are interesting, but his writing style did not appeal to me.
