My boys absolutely love Henry Huggins. These books may be over fifty years old, but the world of Klickitat Street still rings true. Families still have dogs. Little sisters are still pests. Neighbor kids still have squabbles. And boys still have dreams.
Henry and the Paper Route, ten-year-old Henry Huggins dreams of having a paper route of his very own. He fancies himself a true businessman, and he wouldn’t mind a little extra money to string up a telephone line between his room a...more

Henry is only 10 but wants a job of being a paper boy but Mr. Capper doesn't hire until someone is 11. Henry does whatever he can to prove he is well qualified; he tries to give away kittens as a bonus when he sells newspaper subscriptions, he also totes around old magazines for the school paper drive. Henry still isn't allowed to have the job until he is 11. A new kid shows up, Murph. Murph takes over Scooter's old paper route which Henry wanted. Murph gave the paper route to Henry because he c...more
Henry grows responsible and takes on a paper route...and something in him dies just a tad bit.
Back to Neil Patrick Harris. Yay. I do not remember ever reading this, even though I have it down as a Catholic-school read. o_O The story itself is super cute, and despite the fact that I didn't have friends who were boys back in the day, I found it very relatable.
Also, NPH does Murph's voice with a lisp, and it's ADORABLE.

While most of my friends were enamored with Ramona, I loved Henry and wished he were my neighbor or older brother.
I read every book in this series about third grade. I remember that this was the first series I fell in love with as a child. These books still hold up over 30 years (cough, cough, has it been that long?) later.

I don't like Henry as much as Cleary's other characters -- he's just too earnest for me. However, Andy loves to read about Henry and Ribsy, so we do. It's funny trying to explain some of the more dated references.
What I loved most about Ramona, Beezus, Henry, and the rest of Beverly Cleary's children was how real their fears and joys and neuroses seemed to be - and how easily readers could identify with them. I can't wait to give my kids these books.
I'm realizing that I like the Henry Huggins books even better than the Ramona books. Except for "Ribsy" I think they're more consistently good. The first chapter of this one alone is worth the price of admission. There are also many laugh-out-loud moments and it features the best robot name ever.
I thought this was cute, but it didn't hold the magic of the former "Henry" books we've read. It was a little slow at times and not as funny - still very cute, but I'd read it first before others :)
My son and I really enjoyed reading this together. Lots of laugh out loud moments and nothing scary in it for younger kids. Also fun to discuss the differences from childhood today versus the 50s.
I believe this was the first chapter book I read and I remember having to read it in 20 minute increments. As a 2nd grader this was torture! If only I had known what I was in for!
Beverly Cleary was on eof the favorites of my childhood, and while my kids were less attached to her, they still enjoyed her books--this is a good one.
I liked this book because it was interesting. I also think that if you like Beverly Clearly then you will in joy this book.
I read this to my son and he really liked it. It shows how Henry has to grow up and how his decisions effect his life.
I remember this book being rather humorous, due to Ramona being a pest. It's a good read for a boring day.
Another winner with my boys! The Henry series also has "guest appearances" by Ramona, who my boys love!
This book was REALLY boring! When I read it, I always fell asleep because it was so boring.
It was nice because Henry was able to get the paper route but his neighbor gave it to him.
i'd go with 2 1/2 stars- i totally agree with my mom- this wasn't the best read aloud for fam.
Not as many wacky hijinks as other Cleary books, but a good message about perseverance, disappointment and parents.
to me this book was good i relly liked it and it took me 2 days to read this
This was one of my favorite "Ramona" books.
Poor Henry. Dealing with Ramona all the time!
I think ramona is a pest in this book.
Good one to read to my 7year old.
Ramona is such a trouble maker!
GREAT ,AMAZING.
My favorite part is when Henry gets the paper route at the end.
Henry's objective is to get his own paper route.
My 10 year old son and I read this together. We laughed at henry and his encounters with Ramona. I loved Henry's determination in getting the paper route. My son loved it so much, we're reading another Henry book.
