I always make sure to have the current Maltin guide around. Anytime I really enjoy a movie I make sure to flip this ever-growing bastard of a book open and see how Maltin disagreed with everything good about the movie.

He does get it right every once in a while, like giving Magnolia 3 stars, but I won't forgive him for giving Body Double 1 and a half stars. In case you are not familiar there is no 1 star rating. Anything worse than 1 and a half stars is considered a BOMB according to Maltin. Bod

There's a problem with Maltin's guides, and it's that they've gotten way too thick to be contained feasibly within the confines of cardboard and glue binding. So thick, in fact, that nobody seemed to notice that copies of the 2007 edition escaped from the bindery lacking about 100 pages, entirely omitting all the "E" titles and some of the D's and F's. Luckily, the store allowed me a credit in exchange.

This is a reference book, so I haven't read everything. But very useful to look up directors, actors, and brief summaries.
