This book surprised me.

Honestly, I didn’t expect to have been so engrossed and entertained by a Bible story I knew all too well. Only one time has this story been re-told that I appreciated it as much—Francine Rivers’ Unveiled in the Lineage of Grace series. But even though Francine Rivers is my favorite author, this story by Teresa Pollard was better told—simply my opinion!

The role of every kind of human emotion/character that could be involved in a love story—love, hatred, anger, bitterness, j

Biblical fiction always fascinates me, because of the extensive research that must have gone into each story. Additionally, if the plot makes perfect sense, as to how close to the absolute truth it could be, I would assume the book is God-inspired in the same way the Bible is.

This beautiful work is about one of Israel’s sons, Judah, and his daughter-in-law, Tamar. Those who study the Word know only what the Bible tells us happened between these two characters. But in Tokens of Promise, Teresa P

Rescued from disgrace by the handsome Judah, Tamar is already in love with the kind stranger. She eagerly followed Emi's advice on how to win him. It almost worked. He had promised.

Tokens of Promise, (based on Genesis 38) is the story of Tamar and Judah. Author Teresa Pollard puts this story, steeped in ancient laws and customs, to the page in language I could easily understand and enjoy. Author’s notes and a chapter by chapter Group Discussion Guide makes this book an educational and insightful tool for group as well as individual pleasure. Solid research coupled with author’s well written imagination transforms the bare facts of their story into a tale of romance, intrig ...more

This inspirational novel, set in Israel at the time of the patriarchs, is the story of Judah (son of Jacob, grandson of Isaac) and Tamar, his daughter-in-law. It’s a fictional love story built around Old Testament facts. It paints a good picture of life in ancient Israel, and makes you take a closer look at Judah and Tamar.

It’s also good to read The Author’s Notes, found at the end of the book. I read them when I started the book, and found them interesting as they tell the approach the author

You'll want to read Teresa's novel. Her account of a passionate Biblical account is filled with heartache and rejection. You can feel Tamar's pain as she deals with the death of two evil husbands and another son of Judah who denies his duty to her. She is forced to take matters into her own hands and lureJudah to fulfill his promise. Tokens of Promise brings out the reality and failures of the patriarch, but God is in control and Tamar is finally vindacated

This is one of those books that you need to begin reading when you have a big chunk of time because you won’t want to put it down. I read it in one night while a thunderstorm raged outside, hoping the power wouldn’t go out! Pollard brings to fictional life a little-known or little-considered love story tucked inside the drama of Joseph and his jealous vengeful brothers. Beyond the romantic drama, I was fascinated by the historical and geographical perspectives, as well as the ancient cultural no ...more

Tokens of promise

This is the first biblical fiction I have read. Judah saves Tamar from the bad guys, since he did that she said they are to marry but he is already married and wants to stay true to his wife. He take her to marry his son. A very interesting book. If you enjoy biblical fiction, you will love the book.
