Written by Dipak Basu about his beloved daughter Jhumki, Mission to Teach is a powerful biography about an amazing woman and an inspiring educator. The life of Jhumki Basu was unfortunately cut short after she lost her battle with cancer at the tender age of only 31 yet her accomplishments and the people she touched along the way will forever be blessed simply for having known her. I challenge any reader to read Mission to Teach and not weep for the loss of Jhumki, a true hero in so many lives. ...more

Mission to teach, fell on to my radar. I'm so glad it did.
Mission to Teach, is heart breaking, thought provoking, inspiring, moving, and life changing.

I can't think of another book, that has gutted me quite like this one.
Mission to Teach is written by Dipak Basu. The story of his daughter, Jhumki Basu and the legacy she left behind after passing from cancer at the age of 31.

31 people!? She was practically a baby with so much life ahead of her. History shows she would of done wonders had she had

Coming from a family of educators in some way, shape, or form, this book really touched my heart. This woman really had a story to tell and it is wonderful that her father was willing to put in the time and effort to create an in-depth memoir in her name. As someone who is going into [Music] Education myself, I found Jhumki's story inspiring and moving. I have a lot of drive and motivation, but this woman had a fierce det

This book is written by Dipak Basu, the father of Jhumki who loved her and wanted to keep her legacy alive. She was an outstanding teacher and who excelled greatly despite her battle with cancer that took her life at the young age of thirty-one.

Prepare yourself to be inspired by this biography of Jhumki, a teacher who believed you have to get real close to your students as you teach them, by understanding their background and culture. This was her preferred method of getting the interaction she

I found myself reading this book in two ways... Maybe three. So engaged by Dr. Basu's work in the field of science education (my area of interest), intrigued and amazed by her personal story (she was my age peer) and touched by this loving, detailed, powerful tribute by her father (as a mom myself). A memoir, biography and textbook all in one! I'm speechless yet I have a thousand thoughts... What a force she was . Wish I could have worked with her! She came to Teachers college a month after I ...more

Inspiring and uplifting! The story of Jhumki's too-short life is told with heart-rendering emotion by her father. A must-read for any teacher or aspiring teacher.

Amazing woman and story. I am always a little skeptical of stories like this, especially since it was written by her father. But she was still a pretty amazing and accomplished person.
