An island of beauty becomes A GATEWAY TO TERROR...

Few could argue that the exclusive island of San Martin is anything less than paradise. In this wealthy enclave, veterinarian Markie Cross has a thriving practice, but her almost psychic connection to animals has made human relationships -- especially with men -- harder to navigate. Until mystery, murder and something unfat

..".sex, lies and politics...a compelling source of conflict." --Publishers Weekly on WITH MALICI
HUH??? That's the description, but doesn't do the book justice in any way. Sure, they were present as catalysts... but hardly in the usual government scandal way. An exotic island, Kato the wolf/Husky mix, the evil spirit of Annie Black.... a fictional tale far more entertaining (and less tacky) than our real life bumbling politicos become embroiled in. A quick read, with unusual murders and a few u

This is the first book I have read by Rachel Lee and I really enjoyed it. Hmmm, can someone enjoy bodies going to much for no explanable reason - I did. No one, not even the CDC could discover the cause of the deaths on the island. Declan Quinn, M.D. and Markie Cross, DVM had even seen the death of Ashley and it was unexplainable from a scientific standpoint but there were other things at work on the island. Things that are dark and from the past.

This book has a fair plot, which was a little ahead of its time when it was first published in 04. It's a little on the paranormal side in suspense but not so far out to make it unlikable. Good characters and location make up for some of that. Since it was published in 04 there was not much hardcore sex which I find makes a better read. If you like some spooky in your books (without doing the vampire thing) this is a good one to choose.
Definitely not a gentle bedtime story, Something Deadly delivers a classic Good vs Evil story with a Caribbean touch. This is a level of Evil you don't mess around with, which soon becomes apparent to those who stirred it up. While some of the details were too gruesome for my delicate sensibilities, they were definitely effective in ratcheting up the tension. Very well done tale, but not one I'm up to visiting again.

I am reading books on "thriller" genre lists for my book club this month. This one was on a supernatural thriller because the protagonists not only are able to commune with dogs in a small way, but their whole island is under attack from an evil spirit. The spirit's method of murder is to inhabit a person's body and basically crush every last bit at a cellular level. Nasty.

Took me a while to read, because I was reading other books at the same time. But I hunkered down and finished this one. Well written, about something that turns bones into a jello like substance killing the person from the inside.

The most suspenseful book I read all year. Very mysterious and ghost-like (there is a word like occult, that I am trying to remember). What is haunting the island and can they survive?

Pretty interesting in the beginning..But the book lost me towards the end, got a little boring.
A great book, though it did give me a couple nightmares :)
