A quiet book about death and living. I found the characters to be very interesting and the setting was unusual and played well. A few incongruities, but overall a really good read.

A perfectly pleasant read, but nothing really special. The author spends a fair amount of the book presenting a dictionary of elephant language, which the main character has developed; the dictionary feels cluttered with this character's musings. I picked this up after being disappointed that the heart of Water for Elephants was not the human-animal relationship. But this one didn't make me care too much about the characters and their relationships either.

This one was just a bit too weird for me. First of all, they raised Elephants. That should say it all! ha ha But really, the characters were difficult for me to relate to. Also, the ending stunk, big time!!
