I picked up this book and was immediately hooked and bought it. The beginning setting is WWI in a French hospital filled with injured American soldiers. It was well written, but none of the characters were someone with which I could identify. It was definitely interesting, and the beginning is really good. As I continued to read I realized the book was rather smutty.

Well written but I has some serious problems with the logic of this book. (Spoiler alert) I am supposed to believe that someone can get so drunk that they mistake a short 17 year old for a 42 year old woman with whom you have been sleeping with and that that extremely inebriated person would be able to pin down and maintain an erection (whiskey dick not withstanding) forcibly rape said 17 year old. This book is pretty long (like 600+ pages!) and really good. I was always lost in the story and how it flowed. Even though it is set back in the early 1900's I could relate to the story. I sometimes have a hard time understanding what life was like back then since I have no clue, but this story was a story of the characters not the settings. Also, I loved how human the people are. There are not many positives to say about this book. I was bored through most of it and to be frank, it just was not good. This book is a love triangle gone all wrong. Wealth, power, or love? Seems like wealth and power were much more important, which is unfortunate. Some spots leave you hanging and saying what?? There were many characters that had no relevance to the plot of the story. If there was a question below this review asking if I would recommend this book to others, I'd say no.
I am not tpyically a romance novel fan, my mother left it at my house and well, it was a book so I decided to read it. The plot was actually really good, the character development was good. As a personal opinion, I would have liked for more to have been revealed to the main characters but alas, the title would not be the title if there weren't some things "omitted"

I do like this book but I guess I just assumed there was going to be a happy ending (which still might happen; I know this is book 1 of 2) but I have a feeling it's going to be more of a bittersweet ending. I think that by the end I'll get what it's all about but right now the characters just aren't doing what I want them to do. :)
I ENJOYED THIS BOOK. IT CONTAINED MANY SECRETS AND THEY WOULD HAVE ALL PRODUCED TOTALLY DIFFERENT RESULTS IN EVERYONE'S LIVES IF THEY HAD BEEN REVEALED. IT KEPT THE READER GUESSING OF WHAT WAS NEXT.
One of my favorite series of all time. Fern Michaels at her best. I was captivated by the story and the characters. LOVED it!!!!
Overall this was a good book, although I got frustrated with the characters at different points during the book.
I have both in hardback,autograaphed by ms.Michaels,wanted her to write a sequel.
Paris after WWI, Hollywood in the 20's and 30's, so of course I loved.
Another excellent duo of books!

Finished this yesterday and enjoyed it a LOT! Great characters, wonderful women's fiction plot that reminds me of all the "greats" I read in the 70's and 80's. Now can't wait to read the sequel, Sins of the Flesh.
Dragged on. Felt as if the author was trying to fill the pages with pointless info. Was very disappointed because it started off well.
Slow start, but picked up and was worth the read.

Interesting storyline. The author starts with WWI and end just before WWII. The characters are well developed if a little strange. This is a very wordy book. It held my attention and it's a sort of to be continued. I liked the descriptions of the War, the French countryside, and the interaction of the characters.
Drudgery...it had a few moments of being good, but they weren't enough to earn it even an "eh, it was ok". Honestly, if they'd cut out about 100 pages of the whining, the constant descriptions and the pointless nattering, it might've been better
