Wow! How many sex scenes can an author - or in this case, authors - cram into a book? A lot, apparently. I didn't keep track of them, but I'm willing to bet this book has more sex scenes than chapters. And that's why I'm shelving it as an "erotica-romantica" read even though it isn't officially labeled as that.

I'm trying to get my thoughts together about this book and it's a little difficult. There's lots to enjoy about this book--first, it has a very original storyline about Remy, an ex-Navy SEAL who has a gift/curse of being able to control the weather but the weather also controls his libido. There's lots to enjoy about this book--first, it has a very original storyline about Remy, an ex-Navy SEAL who has a gift/curse of being able to control the weather but the weather also controls his libido. Apparently, when a storm is brewing, Remy's got to have sex, and often. Second, it starts out with a bang--immediate action and lots and lots and lots of hot, down and dirty (literally) hot sex (in the mud, on the floor, outside in the rain, etc.)between Remy and parameteorologist Haley, the heroine who is sent by her agency to study him. Third, there's an exciting battle between the agency that Haley works for (ACRO, which stands for Agency of Covert Rare Operatives), who want to recruit Remy and use his powers for the good of the country, versus the bad guys of a rival agency who want to use him to control and possibly destroy the country.

This is not an easy read. There's lots to digest and keep track of, especially if you're not familiar with the paranormal world of mediums, psychics, telekinesis, ghost hunters, etc. Lots of characters are introduced, each with their own special paranormal powers, and I felt like I needed a scorecard at times to keep track of them. However, if you stick with it, you'll be rewarded. Although things get a little bit violent toward the end, it does get very exciting. And there's plenty of sex and romance to keep you entertained in between the action scenes!

I loved Remy and Haley together. I felt bad for the life Remy had led--he really felt like an outcast his whole life because of his special 'gift' and he desperately needed someone to love and to be loved. Haley was the same--she never felt the love and affection from her parents, never felt like she fit in anywhere until she joined ACRO, and wasn't sure if she could even 'do' love. I was glad that these two characters connected so well, not only sexually but emotionally. And I especially loved when Remy slipped in a little Cajun French when he was loving Haley--very sexy!

Since this was the first book in the series, there was a little bit of a set-up of the series which I've come to expect, and at times I felt a little overwhelmed with all the characters introduced. But, every character had something unique and exciting about them, and I look forward to reading their individual stories. If you enjoy a paranormal with an unusual premise, lots of erotic sex-- including a brief m/m scene-- and plenty of action, then I doubt that you'd be disappointed in "Riding the Storm". (less)

I wasn't prepared for all that I read between the covers of this trade paperback. It certainly started right off and at first, I thought, "sex fest," but there were two very good stories running along with the erotic element that captivated my attention. This was a pretty good book. No wasting any time jumping right to the sex scenes though!

The premise is about an organization that employs supernatural people. Remy, the male lead, can control the weather but he is not part of this organization. They send in Haley to recruit him before the "bad guys" get to him and use him for nefarious purposes.

I liked this book! This is a story about a man named Remy who can control the weather. He has been able to do it his entire life and hates every minute of it. The weather also controls him... it is tied to sex, so when it starts to get stormy, his needs accelerate!

Almost all the individuals in the organization are emotionally hurt after a lifetime of being 'different'. Now that I've read the first and the second books, I'm only stopping long enough to write two reviews and then back to the third book. Why did I wait to read these? WARNING: Although I wouldn't classify these as erotica, they are filled with hot, sweaty, and sometimes tender sex...a lot of sex.

Haley is one of the few 'normals' at ACRO. Her skills lie in the scientific world of parameteorology which makes her perfect to try and bring in a man who can supposedly control the weather. Not that she really believes that, but once she catches sight of her 'target' she's more than happy to use anything and everything she's got to bring him in...before the other side finds him and uses him as a weapon.

Remy's life has been spiraling out of control lately. He left his SEAL team because he just can't play well with others. When he gets an urgent call from his 'father', the past just doesn't seem to matter and he sets out for their bayou home. As usual he brings the storm with him, but never expected that he'd find a gorgeous woman instead of his father...or that she'd be the one woman who can handle ALL Remy, and mother nature, can throw at her.

Interesting concept with just enough differences to make it memorable from the 'deluge' (LOL) of paranormal books flooding the market. There's a secondary romance that sizzles and I'd want to read the next one just to get more information about these wounded warriors. Larissa Ione and Stephanie Tyler are the writing duo behind this series and I can't wait to see where it's headed next! Hot, hot, hot!!

In PNR and adventure romance, I want to read about science and problem solving. I want the book to engage my inner geek as well as my inner romantic. I want to get to know the characters, and I don't want to sacrifice plot for steam. Above all, I want balance. Riding the Storm isn't balanced.

This book left me feeling cheated. When I first read about a book series that combined science, sex, and superheroes, I thought "Wow! This series is so for me." I've always been a fan of weather phenomena and I'm a bit of a storm chaser, so the weather element of Haley and Remy's story in Riding the Storm really appealed to me. When I opened the book, I was looking forward to geeking out with technical weather lingo, superhero action, and descriptions of cool weather-tracking instruments. I was disappointed to find relatively little superhero action and even less science. What I got instead was an endless sex scene and a less-than-believable romance that equated immediate intense sexual attraction with true love. Love at first sight is difficult enough to pull off, but love at first orgasm really tests my ability to suspend disbelief.

Riding the Storm isn't all bad. Remy and Haley are interesting people. They have amazing sexual chemistry and good relationship chemistry (though the latter wasn't explored in detail). Remy is strong and powerful, and Haley is calm and steadfast. Neither is hesitant or afraid to yield to the other when it's appropriate.

Dev, the leader of ACRO, is a pretty cool guy. While he wasn't my favorite character, I enjoyed learning his back story and seeing how he related with the ACRO team. I really enjoyed reading about Wyatt and Ender as well, and I'm hoping their stories are stronger than Remy's story.

I loved the side story about ACRO team members Creed and Annika. Creed is a powerful man that can communicate with ghosts and spirits. He's huge, pierced, tattooed, and hot, and he's clearly in love with tough chick Annika. Annika can control electricity. She can kill with just a touch. No one is immune to her deadly powers except the one man that drives her crazy with both anger and lust. Whew. Their story is sizzling. Apparently Creed and Annika's story runs throughout the series, and they haven't gotten a full book yet. I really hope they do because they're just absolutely amazing together and Creed is one of the hottest Alpha males I've ever met in a book.

The sex, although overwhelmingly abundant and in need of some toning down, is fantastic. Stephanie Tyler and Larissa Ione write amazing sex scenes. I'd call them love scenes, but unfortunately most of them really are just sex. My favorite sex scenes were the ones between Remy and Haley during the worst storms, and all the ones between Creed and Annika.

The superhero element still excites me because it's so rare in erotic romance, and the last third of Riding the Storm did deliver some good superhero action.

Riding the Storm is a good book. What's disappointing to me is that it easily could have been so much better. The book was interesting enough that I went ahead and bought the second and third book, and I do plan to read them. I'm interested in the superhero storylines and I love the characters. I just hope books 2, 3, and beyond focus more on the interesting characters and the fascinating world Ms. Ione and Ms. Tyler have created, and less on the sex that distracts us from the story.

For me this book falls somewhere between a B- and a C+. For readers that don't mind sacrificing plot for incredible and creative sex scenes, it might be an A. - 9/21/08(less)

I remember reading a short story of Sydney Croft awhile back and thought it was super steamy, sexy, and smoking hot! Riding the Storm was exactly that and did the romance between the leads sizzle! My first DNF of the year. Ugh! This book is too much for me, and I'm not ashamed to admit it. They are having sex almost from page one and it never seems to stop. I need a little plot please...and preferably one that doesn't involve using sex as a tool to study someone's paranormal abilities. There is also a side romance between two men that some people may enjoy, but I am not one of them.

Haley is just a regular ACRO employee, no special talents except for her genius in meteorology. Because of that, she is sent to go and recruit Remy, a man with the supposed ability to control the weather.

As Remy and Haley get closer and their feelings for each other extend to more than just the current weather pattern, will Haley’s secret about who she really is affect their budding relationship? Then, to make matters worse ACRO’s competition Itor is looking to get their hands on Remy, even if they have to go through Haley to get him.

I really enjoyed this book. I love the idea of everyday people having extraordinary abilities. Although most of the operatives from ACRO have accepted and embraced their abilities, I was happy to see Remy struggle with his. I adored his character, he was a super strong alpha type male, and although he constantly radiated strength and confidence, it was also evident that his history and past made a huge impression on him. There were times I just wanted to cuddle him in my arms and tell him everything would be okay.

I was a little surprised at first that Remy and Haley jumped into bed (or in their case, the floor) together so quickly. Although Haley seemed to think that would be the only way to convince him to come work for ACRO, and even went so far as to go through seduction training before going on this mission, they both seemed so ready and willing to jump into a relationship, even though they couldn’t even get along their first night. But once we found out that Remy’s abilities with the weather are tied to his libido, I felt a little bit better about it, but still thought it was a little sudden.

I really enjoyed Haley’s character. She is this nerdy weather loving chic that is used to sitting in a lab, not out on the front lines. I liked following her journey, watching her struggle and overcome her insecurities about working in the field. It was great to see her struggle with the Itor agents, and finding her own way in a a team of trained fighters. I chuckled when she got back to their home base, and demanded self defense and more field training.

I was a little frustrated that the story jumped back and forth from Remy and Haley to Annika and Creed, another set of agents for ACRO. While I liked getting background information on other operatives, and ACRO as a company, I was hoping for a lot more development in the Remy and Haley story line. It felt as if almost half the story was devote to the subplots, and as interesting as they were, I wanted more of Remy and Haley.

I’m really excited to see where this series goes. There was talk throughout the entire first book about a possible traitor inside ACRO, and I’m anxious to see how that all gets resolved. I hope that we get to see as much of Remy and Haley in future books as we saw of the remainder of the ACRO agents in this one. I’m anxious to see if Annika and Creed get together. (Loved all their angsty sexual tension!)

All in all, I give Riding the Storm an A. (less)

Bwahahahahaha....and the book is not a comedy.

The premise isn't terrible, really. It actually could've been fairly interesting given the proper vehicle. The protagonist has a unique and unusual relationship with Mother Nature. The basic premise that's set up in this series is that there are two corporations recruiting those with special gifts (psychics, telekinetics, ghost-translators, etc.), namely ACRO (the good guys) and Itor (the bad guys). Both have different methods of recruiting and of course, both have different agendas revolving around why they exist in the first place.

The first book is the story of Remy Begnaud, a man with a strange talent to draw weather. Of course, in the beginning, he has little control over his abilities and feels like an outsider, a menace to all he comes into contact with. This causes him to be a loner and to push people away before getting too close to them. There's also a catch to his weather ability. Whenever the storms are intense or very severe, he needs to find release or else he'll go crazy. His release is found whenever he has intimate relations with a woman, but another unfortunate side-effect is that the intensity of his need to release scares women away from him. That is, until he meets Haley Holmes. Haley's a member of ACRO and it's her assignment to recruit Remy by any means possible.

This story is very action packed and introduces a slew of wonderful characters that I, personally, can't wait to read more about. The stage has definitely been set to make this series a long lasting one as well as a very hot and thrilling one. The sex scenes are steamy and quite abundant, but rest assured that they all have a purpose and build up the characters, their relationships with others and of course, only adds to the amazing plot line.

I couldn't put this book down until I finished it and now that it's over, I find myself anxiously awaiting the second installment which is due out in March. I commend the authors on a very brilliant start to what promises to be an absolutely amazing series. One with interesting twists and turns, lots of action and endings that'll bring happy tears to your eyes.(less)

I'm a librarian so it sort of goes against my nature to buy books. But this book was so hot and steamy and good - it is killing me to wait to read more of them. Don't hesitate to pick this one up...

I finished this book this weekend, and I was so grateful for a better-than-average book that I wanted to clap my hands and cheer. The book was nothing like I thought it would be. I knew that Larissa Ione (as part of the Sydney Croft writing due of Ione and Stephanie Tyler) wrote higher heat level books under the pen name Sydney Croft. I should have realized they'd be seriously delicious!

I expected to enjoy this book based on all of the reviews, and it fulfilled my expectations. I loved Remy, he was probably my favorite thing in the book - Sydney Croft did a great job portraying his troubles with his "curse" without it being whiny and pathetic. It was easy to understand where he was coming from. And he is definitely HOT!

This book had me from the opening chapter. The chemistry between Remy and Haley sizzles like the lighting that strikes whenever they are in contact with one another. It was an enjoyable, sexy read. Great for the upcoming summer months!

I'm really glad a read past the first chapter of this book. I usually don't like weather-related paranormal stories, and this one has a major story line connected to a man who has shaky control over the weather. But it also has other characters with other powers who show up later and made the story much more interesting for me. AND it's smutty enough to qualify as "erotica light".

WOW, I haven't been fully satisfied with a PNR for awhile (aside from Nalini Singh's or Jeaniene Frost's). Although this should be categorized more as paranormal erotic romance ^_^. This one kept me up reading -- and the only reason I had to stop was because the battery of my mp3 player that acted as a reader died. I think the book is sensual and steamy. Yes, there are a lot of sex scenes but I don't think they are overwhelming (I am so used to the m/m erotic that this one doesn't bother me :p)....more

I realize that sex was a very important plot device (just glance at the official description to see that), but some of it seemed gratuitous rather than plot-driven. I didn't mind any of the encounters between Dev and his partners or between Creed and Annika (*hot*), but there was just one or two too many encounters between Remy and Haley.. I got to the point I practically skimmed, and that's never a good thing.

The magical tattoos thing just really didn't do it for me, either. *wrinkles nose*

And while we're at it, go ahead and smack me for this double standard too -- I don't care for female protagonists who use sex as part of a spy job. Total double standard because, as anyone who reads my reviews knows, I adore me some Anne Stuart and she's the cliff-hucking queen of the sex-and-seduction-as-a-means-to-an-end plot device. For some reason though, it doesn't sit well with me when a female does the same thing *shrugs*

Despite all that, I did enjoy it. I was a bit disappointed that Remy didn't push the "what happens if I say no" issue, just because I'm a sadist and wanted to see what they'd say (*evil laugh*), but overall it was a good story. The emotional relationship between Remy and Haley seemed well paced, despite their sudden dive into sex right after they met, and I really enjoyed Creed and Annika's.. er.. "relationship". I was hoping that they'd get their own book, but from reading the descriptions of the next few, it doesn't look like that's the case. I wonder if they continue the trend of secondary (and tertiary) romances in future books.

I'm finding myself withdrawing from the more erotic romances lately, so do keep that in mind when you consider my rating -- it's entirely possible that I'm being unfair to the novel simply because my own personal tastes are changing :)

However, given that Sydney Croft is the pseudonym for the writing duo of Larissa Ione whose Demonica and Lords of Deliverance series which I adore and Stephanie Tyler, I thought I'd give this first book in the ACRO series a try.

Former Navy SEAL Remy Begnaud returns home to the Louisiana bayou after resigning his commission and has a problem with the weather, specifically storms. Don't we all, though? Remy's issue that his libido increases to dangerous levels depending upon the severity of the storm. Not only does the weather control him but he can also control the weather.

This has come to the attention of the Agency for Covert Rare Operatives (ACRO) who recruit people with special abilities like Remy and train them to use their powers for the force of good. As such, they have despatched Haley Holmes a parameteorologist to recruit Remy by any means necessary, including seducing him before ACRO’s competition, Itor get him for their own nefarious ends. Like dropping F5 tornadoes on cities.

Haley's already and Remy's home when he arrives in the middle of a particularly bad storm and as such gets to witness firsthand what effect the weather has on his sex drive. And as seduction is within her remit, it’s not long before they are throwing themselves at each other.

And that's the start of one of the hottest, steamiest erotic books that I've read. Not only that, there is a decent story in the race to who will recruit Remy first and a sub-plot despite all the sex of which there is a considerable amount not only between Remy and Haley but also Annika and Creed a pair of 'rares' (she can channel electricity and he is immune to her power but is accompanied by a jealous female spirit) and the head of ACRO and his PA.

Both main characters are given suitable back stories so that it can be seen why each behave the way they do and there is a nice reveal at the end which explains why Remy and Haley are so right for each other.

So, whilst the 'rares' like Remy could be compared to the X-men's mutants, Remy is certainly not Storm, Dev is not Professor X and ACRO is definitely not a school for the gifted.

A very hot and very nice start to a new series that I shall definitely be continuing with.(less)
