The Girl Next Door...All Grown Up!
Lucas Grady never planned to return to Whispering Oaks. But when family duty called, the prodigal son arrived like the good soldier he'd been for years. And with him came the unfulfilled expectations of the past--expectations his neighbor, Jocelyn Howard, knew all too well.
Jocelyn had been in love with the rebel next door since she was a

THE MEDIC’S HOMECOMING by author Lynne Marshall is a Harlequin Special Edition release for July 2013.

Coming home to Whispering Oaks, Lucas Grady is not ready to face his future or his past. Then he looks at the girl next door, Jocelyn Howard, his childhood friend all grown up now.

Will he let the attraction between them turn into something more? More to the point, is he ready to commit? So he decided to move away.
Jocelyn has always loved Lucas. And specially after the sensual turn their relatio
Very good book. Lucas came back to Whispering Oaks to help take care of his parents as they recover from an accident. While he's there he needs to decide what he wants to do with the rest of his life. He just spent the last eight years as an army medic. He doesn't know what he wants to pursue as a career. He is also suffering from the effects of PTSD which causes him to keep a distance between himself and others. One person he can't seem to stay away from is Josslyn. She's all grown up from his ...more
THE MEDIC'S HOMECOMING is the second book in author Lynne Marshall's WHISPERING OAKS series, the first being COURTING HIS FAVORITE NURSE. It was a pleasure to return to this rural Californian community for more gentle romance.

Lucas Grady, the brother of Anne Grady, the heroine of COURTING HIS FAVORITE NURSE, is a different type of character. He failed to live up to his father's high expectations and didn't become a doctor. He did however, serve abroad in the military as a medic for many years. N
First of all, I'd like to thank Vashti for lending me this book. Thank you so very much! You're a real sweetheart :*

Now let's move onto the book. It wasn't really a good read, I can't say that I enjoyed it. It seemed way too bland and unemotional. I'm not a big fan of the author's writing. At first I thought that it might have been written by a guy, but a couple of scenes towards the end convinced me otherwise (the award ceremony scene and the kissing scene that follows). But even then, I didn't

The Medic's Homecoming by Lynne Marshall is a story of childhood friends being reunited after ten years apart and going from friends to lovers and so much more.

Army Medic Lucas Grady has returned home to Whispering Oaks after ten years in the military. He has returned to his childhood home to help his parents. His father is recovering from a motorcycle accident that has left him with a cast on one leg, and another on his opposite arm. Suffering from PTSD from the horrors of war, he is a changed

Lynne Marshall has written another wonderfully emotional story filled with heart and soul. I loved Lucas and Jocelyn and their friends to lovers journey. I can ALWAYS count on Lynne Marshall to give me a feel good read with real characters encountering real problems and finding love as they tackle their issues. Well done!

Lucas Grady is a hot, but troubled discharged Medic with a streak of rebellion a mile wide. He enlisted rather than going to college, like his parents wanted. He bailed from PTSD therapy early, when his parents incurred injuries on their Harley. And now, the girl next door wants... more, maybe, than he can give her.

Jocelyn Howard has had a crush on her next-door hottie since they were teens. It hurt when he up and enlisted, but she got on with her life, going to college. I liked that the author

I’ve been looking forward to reading THE MEDIC’S HOMECOMING since I finished COURTING HIS FAVORITE NURSE. While Anne and Jack’s romance absorbed me, I sensed a little spark between Anne’s younger brother Lucas and neighbor Jocelyn, and was thrilled to learn their story was in the works. I’m pleased to report THE MEDIC’S HOMECOMING was worth the wait!

Lucas is, on the surface, your typical military-guy Alpha—tough, stoic, muscular and, um, hot. But inside, he’s reeling from the

"It's a joy to watch Marshall's hero and heroine take the final plunge to love in this heartwarming friends-to-lovers story. Plus, the co-stars are a perfect complement to her leads, and the love scenes are incendiary." RT Book Reviews, rated 4 stars

This was totally predictable but with a few extra touches. The returning soldier with PTSD is very timely. And I liked the heroine being both a science teacher and an athlete. The sport being featured was track, which was unusual.

For my writer brain reference (there may be spoilers):

Trope: Friends to lovers (childhood friends)

Hero returns to his hometown after 10 years.

Conflict: Lucas' PTSD. Jocelyn really didn't have one. She was in a potentially abusive relationship, but got out before things escalated. Didn't seem much of an issue anymore.

Hero makes big gesture: Lucas was determined to leave hometown to go college to pursue a medical degree, believing he needs to have something concrete to offer Jocelyn, but decides

Average Harlequin. Nothing really stood out to me. But saying that, it was worth the read.

Lynne used to worry she had a serious problem with daydreaming, then she discovered she was supposed to write the stories in her head. A late bloomer, Lynne came to fiction writing after her children were nearly grown. Now she battles the empty nest by writing stories which always include a romance, sometimes medicine, a dose of mirth, or both, but always stories from her heart. She is a Southern ...more
