When a handsome male athlete asks Mike out for a date, she at first thinks he was looking for her glamorous sister Pat, generally considered one of the prettiest girls in the high school. However, it is worse than that: he asked her out to fulfil a bet. Stung, Mike decides it is time to abandon her careless jock demeanor, and put on some makeup and a dress, and now the joke is on Jeff, who finds out too late he has hurt her feelings and that she is really quite attractive - but sees right ...more

I first read this book as a teen in the '80s and liked it then though it was bit dated with some of the slang and thoughts on women. I don't know what happened to my copy of the book (I got it from some cousins along with some Donna Parker books)but the story stuck with me. Another low expectation book from Little Free Library
But I had to read this book. The title reminded me of a girl I knew in high school, who went by the name of Mike. I still picture her coming in the door to French class, carrying a book called Mrs. Mike.
So the story is told by Mike - the dull, boring younger sister of Pat who has lots of boyfriends. Mike only wants one. A particular one. But the only thing Mike is good at is basketball. One day, leaving the dressing room long after

This is one of my favorite, most memorable books from my teen years. I hope it comes out in an e-version someday.

This is a book I read more than once as a young teen; about a girl who likes basketball. Oh to be taller was my dream.
It' was written in the 1950's so it doesn't have a modern view points of young adult girls but it was a favorite when I was young.

This was one of my favorite books as a teen. We actually read this book in English class when I was in Jr. High. I've looked for a copy but never found one. Maybe some day!!!!
