Ellery Adams' books have sweet titles such as Pecan Pies and Homicides, but there's a dark side to her mysteries. Whether it's her Charmed Pie Shoppe mysteries or her Books by the Bay series, her stories have a power to them that's lacking in many cozy mysteries. Because there's a magical element involved in Pecan Pies and Homicides, the danger seems greater than in other stories. The danger conjured up in these books could threaten entire communities. Ellery Adams manages to turn what appears t...more

If there were more starts to give I would give them to this book. This is the third book in the Charmed Pie series and it is the best. That is hard to say considering I said that about the first two books. Ella Mae has returned to her hometown and to family, friends and enemies. There is the return of great characters like Reba and the aunts. And there is Hugh Dylan and there is more od Hugh Dylan than before. This is a series about magic and enchantment and more of that comes out as Ella Mae se...more

It is safe to say that I love the Charmed Pie Shoppe Mysteries and this book just extended my love affair! Pecan Pies and Homicides deepened the world building the first two books began and gave us a look at covens outside of Havenwood. There were wonderful new characters and we saw some growth from our old favorites. Ella Mae really stepped up in this book and is well on her way to becoming the Clover Queen.

The previous book, Peach Pies...more

Pecan Pies and Homicides is the third book in the A Charmed Pie Shoppe Mystery series.

Another wonderful book about life in Havenwood, Georgia and the Charmed Pie Shoppe from Ellery Adams.

Suzy Bacchus, who owns the Cubbyhole, a book and gift shop, that she has found a reference to book that tells about The Flower of Life. The chances of reading the book on the Gaynor family, who Ella Mae and her family have been at odds with for ages. Ella Mae befriends some people who had their enchanted grove d...more

Ella Mae LeFaye's life continues to get increasingly complicated in "Pecan Pies and Homicides"! I loved this latest addition to this series and as I get to know Ella Mae, Reba and her aunts better, I can't help but love them! This is a charming series, and I can't wait for the next installment!

PECAN PIES AND HOMICIDES is the third book in the Charmed Pie Shoppe Mystery series. This book is a little dark to be a cozy and yet, it has some funny cozy like moments. This book fits a lot of slots: magical realism with an amateur sleuth, fantasy (witches, elementals, magical groves), thriller. That's a lot, but Ellery Adams puts it all together beautifully. There has been a fire in a near by town. Several residents have moved and been welcomed by the citizens of Havenwood. There is danger he...more

Ella Mae LeFaye owns the Charmed Pie Shoppe in Havenwood, Georgia. Most of the residents there don’t know that she can add her own special magical enchantment to her pies or that there are several magical residents in town. Ella Mae lost her mom in the last book in a very unusual way and her difficulty to accept her being gone has left her not feeling very enchanted.

Then she learns of a party being held by Loralyn and her family to welcome other gifted people to Havenwood because their enchanted...more

Pecan Pies and Homicides is the third book in Ellery Adams' Charmed Pie Shoppe Mystery series. Fans of the series will be thrilled with Ella Mae's search for a way to free her mother from the Ash tree and in her amateur sleuthing. But it's not only murder afoot this time in Havenwood, but an arsonist as well. Adams has a way with description that is unparalleled in the genre and she does her homework on the magical aspects of this series. If you are looking for a little magic in your confections...more

I read the first one in series, Pies and Prejudice, based on my enjoyment of Ellery Adams' other series. And, I did have a bit of trouble with the paranormal/fantasyaspect, the characters, plot & mystery kept me reading straight through the second in series, Peach Pies and Alibis. The setting and descriptions, characters, and Ms. Adams ability to keep the fantasy from swamping the mystery made Pecan Pies and Homicides the best of series so far. Granted there was more explanation of fantasy e...more

Ella Mae 's mother, in a desperate attempt to save her daughter as well as the magic of the sacred grove, sacrificed herself to become the new Lady of the Ash. Ella Mae and her new friend Susie have found a reference to a Flower of Life that may free Adelaide , but throughout their search, she also has other problems to cope with. First Thought when Finished: Pecan Pies and Homicides was my favorite in the series so far! The ending is what sealed the deal :)

Story Thoughts: Hands down, this was the best mystery in the series so far. Ella Mae had her hands full with trying to figure out not only a murder but who might also try to torch the secret grove. There were twists, turns, and one thing (with the case) that I didn't see coming. The...more

Do not miss this latest installment of A Charmed Pie Shoppe Mystery by Ellery Adams. It was another exciting chapter in the life of Ella Mae; the creator of all the delicious sounding magic pies. In this story Ella Mae helps another magical community after tragedy strikes down their source of magic. We are introduced to new very likeable and loveable characters from that community. They are instrumental in helping Ella Mae get to the bottom of figuring out exactly "who dunnit".
We also get some o...more

Pecan Pies and Homicides did not disappoint. This time Ella Mae has to deal with, not only the loss of her mother, an arsonist, a murderer, but also the possible loss of her first and only true love. When another enchanted grove is burned down by an arsonist, Ella Mae invites some of the residents to stay in her mother’s house. Has she invited the arsonist to live amongst the residents of Havenwood? Who is it that killed the tiny dancer and why? These are the problems that plaque Ella Mae in thi...more

I really liked this book and it was exactly what I expected from a cozy read. I only gave 4 stars because I felt like there was a little something missing in this latest instalment. I can't put my finger on it but I feel like I didn't really recognise the characters and the conversations between them felt different. Without giving away spoilers I was also disappointed that a lot of the main plot points around elementals were left unexplained so I'm hoping the next book will tidy some of that up....more

Pies and magic, magic and pies - how could you not love a mystery series that features pies and magic! In her third book of her Charmed Pie Shoppe series, Ellery Adams once again brings her readers an intriguing mystery that is filled with magic and, best of all - PIE! I really enjoy this series from Adams and look forward to seeing what new pie tricks she has up her sleeve for the next installment!

Loved, loved, loved this latest installment in the Charmed Pie Shoppe series. The intricacies of the romance between Hugh and Ella Mae get more interesting and complicated. The characters continue to delight, especially Reba. I want to eat one of Ella Mae's magical pies after reading this! Ellery Adams continues to delight.

Excellent mystery and continuation of storyline. Ms Adams does an excellent job developing the plot and characters. I really want to know what will happen next. She makes magic very believable. Recipes look good too.

Beware: spoilers!

Pecan Pies and Homicides picks up where Peach Pies and Alibis ends. Ella Mae has the ability to infuse her pie creations with emotions and memories. She has been depressed and distracted since her mother made the ultimate sacrifice of her kind by becoming The Lady of the Ash, literally becoming one with the sacred tree in the hallowed grove, in order to ensure the continued survival and magical powers...more

Another fine entry in the Charmed Pie Shoppe mystery series. Owner, witch and amateur sleuth Ella Mae LeFaye is confronted by more dead bodies and must solve those crimes while also facing the greatest magical challenge of her life.

I love this series. I am entranced from beginning to end. I cannot wait to see what happens next. Thank you for such a great read.

This is the first book I have read in this series. I enjoyed it, but…

In this book a whole new group of ‘magical people’ move to Havenwood, with even more still to arrive. They move to Havenwood because their own magical tree was destroyed. One of the new people is murdered and the main character, Ella Mae, must find out what is going on. In an earlier book, Ella Mae’s mother turned herself into the magical tree in Havenwood’s enchanted forest. Ella Mae is trying to find a way to bring her mother...more

I was very sad when this book ended, I read it way too fast. It was a little more fantasy and less mystery, but I'm very excited to see where the story goes from here. I am also very excited to hear that she is writing a new series! I had loved every book I have read by her, I cant wait to read more!

This is my first Ellery Adams "Charmed Pie Shoppe" mystery and I guarantee that "Pecan Pies and Homicides" will not be the last. Ella Mae LeFaye--whose family line is descended from Morgan LeFay, a lineage cursed by Merlin--is a young woman endowed with magical powers of enchantment. Busy running her "Charmed Pie Shoppe," Ella Mae discovers through an ancient book how to free her mother from a strong spell and solving two murders. This cosy moves quickly and doesn't get a chance to become stale...more

I loved this book, the best yet in the delightful "Charmed Pie Shoppe" series! It's got mystery, magic, Arthurian legend, enchantment, delicious pies, wonderful characters, and a twisty plot. Highly recommended for readers who enjoy a good, well-written mystery/fantasy.

Ellery Adams has done it again! Pecan Pies and Homicides, the third book in her Charmed Pie Shoppe Mysteries, is a little like Harry Potter for adults. Ella May LeFaye owns the shoppe and adds her special kind of magic to her pies. Havenwood, Georgia is a 'haven' for some magic-infused people. Ella is beginning to feel safe after her marriage fell apart in NYC but life is not going smoothly for her. . . Another group of magic people have been displaced by a fire in their town. These people are l...more

I am enjoying this series more and more, although I did miss Ella's aunt and uncle in this book. There are a lot of interesting characters and many unanswered questions plus a mix of humor to lighten the story.

I have enjoyed this whole series and the characters were great. Story makes you get away to a magical world and wish we could make a pie and make people feel better.

Each book in this series improves upon the last one. This one had even more fantasy and magic along with the main character's (Ela May LeFaye) increasing love interest. Along with yummy treats, magically treated to enhance people's personalities, we have monsters, water and fire elementals, and the magic grove. We also have some luscious recipes at the end of the book and a glimpse of the author's newest series, The Book Resort mysteries. For book lovers this is a series to salivate over. I am...more
