3.5 Solid Stars!

Oh how lovely!

It has been quiet some time since I got my hands on a historical romance novel, let alone a book that featured a theme of friends to lovers!

Lady Jessica Heyer has just become a wealthy young widow. But as a lady she has to endure scrutiny and rumors from the society gossips. Her own marriage was less then stellar. Married to a wicked man that has made her married life a living nightmare, his actions still haunt
Rating: 1.5 stars

To be fair, I ended up skip-reading this book. But even though I liked the hero, I couldn't relate with the heroine and consequently, couldn't get stuck into this book.

Although Jessica has this tragic back-story, I found her rather shallow and stubborn, as opposed to being daring and strong. While I admire the sentiment of wanting to do something 'on your own', I don't think that sharing burdens with a loyal friend is a weakness, and shunning their assistance is not a strength.

I have been waiting for Hayden and Jessica’s story and Ms Clare brings her Scandalous Rogues series to a close with this lovely friends-to-lovers story.

Hayden is such a wonderful hero. Beneath that very proper exterior beats the heart of a very passionate man. He has been in love with his friend Jessica for ten years but was too honourable to have told her of his feelings while she was married. Now her husband is dead, Hayden has every intention of claiming her for his own. I love how he respect
A really beautiful book that had tears pouring down my face .........Her tale is just another one in the cruel line of true tales from this period of English history .Wonderfully written

I won this book through a GoodReads contest and was very excited to receive it so quickly. Honestly, I have had some issues with Ms. Clare's books in the past. They seem super hit or miss for me, and frankly a lot more misses. Being familiar with "The Dangerous Rogue" series, I have been long interested in Jez's story. In the previous books, she always caught my attention. It is always my favourite plot romance to have friends to lovers, and in many ways Hayden and Jez did not disapp
Today’s post is on The Scandalous Duke Takes a Bride by Tiffany Clare. It is the third in her Dangerous Rogues series but you do not have to have read the previous ones to enjoy this story. The cover has the main characters in a passionate embrace with the title and author name in white. The story is told from third person close of the two main characters moving from chapter to chapter. There is sex, language, and talk domestic violence; so 18 and up just to be safe. The intended reader is someo ...more
I love romance novels. They're so formulaic, but somehow they never get old.

Anyone who has ever been told they’re “just a friend” will cheer for the chivalrous hero all the way. Hayden is attentive without being creepy, and a lot of empathy can be felt for Jessica as well. Both hero and heroine were very well developed.

If you're considering reading this book as your foray into romance novels, reconsider! It was dreadfully dull. I could barely get through it. It felt as though the authoress was filling in holes around another plot, and as this is the third book in a series, it's highly likely that this is the case.

Bottom line, this novel lacked passion, believability, sex appeal, and rhythm. It was an utter slog, and I really did not want to finish it. To my dismay, but not surprise, it was not redeemed in the

I'm about half-way through and can't continue. This should be titled the Scandalous Widow takes a Duke. He is the most staid of the three male friends of hers and so far the story is about how she has scandalized the ton and how they revile her. I'm tired of the poor me, everyone hates me, I'm trying to pretend it doesn't bother me but it does. I already was wary due to the friends to lovers trope but I wanted to try it. The Duke, Hayden, seems interesting although I can't figure out why he's so ...more

Most romance novel I forget as soon I read the last page, however, this is one of the better friends to lovers romance story I've read in a while and most likely will not forget. I could truly relate to Hayden and Jez. He being frustrated for years not being able to express his feeling for her. Jez, upon realization of his feelings, does not know how to deal with the situation? Having had the same kind of experience, believe me when I say, it is not easy coming to terms with dealing with your em ...more

THE SCANDALOUS DUKE TAKES A BRIDE by Tiffany Clare is another exciting Victorian era Historical Romance. #3 in the "Dangerous Rogues" series, but can be read as a stand alone.

Meet, Lady Jessica Heyer, a wealthy widow and her oldest friend, Hayden, the
Duke of Alsborough.

Jessica abused as a wife, left nearly dissolute, under scrutiny by the gossip-mongers to the ton, and rumors twirling all around her, she must move forward.

Hayden, her closest and dearest friend, has loved her from afar for years.
This was almost a DNF for me when I hit the phrase in describing an escort to a ball as a "plus one". That is such a modern term that I actually shut my reader down.

With that said, Jess and Hayden's story was only OK. I felt for Jess and all the bad things that happened to her but in the end I just wanted to finish the book. Hayden was a nice guy but thats about all I can say about him. If I had not read the first two and the novella, I would not have picked it up.
This is the first review that I'm giving for a book and I'm sorry it's not a good one. Unfortunately, this book goes into my DNF pile. I felt like there was no chemistry between the main characters. Jess was too stubborn and quick tempered for her own good. All the while Hayden kept saying he wouldn't be "led in a merry chase", but that's exactly what kept happening!

The title was misleading, too. The Duke wasn't scandalous, it was the Countess.

Where to start. The title was misleading the Duke was not scandalous and he only took a bride at the end. I began this book with great interest. It did not take long for this to wane. I felt like a deer caught by a car's headlights, wanting to run but mesmerised to read on waiting for the plot to improve (in vain). The ending was a blessing. The characters were bland as was their story.
I had a hard time reviewing this book. It was well written and interesting. The characters likable and the story flowed well. So what was the problem?

I think I read the three books too close together Because I felt like I had already read this book, since the three books overlap each other. Nothing major happened I this book that I hadn't already read about in the previous books and the things that did happen that were not in the previous books just were not that interesting to me. I finished th

Hero in love with heroine for years and years. Unfortunately it didn't supply the angst and passion. Hero let the heroine walk over him again and again. While I quite admired her, I got the impression that she didn't love him even in the end.

I was really looking forward to this one, Jez and Hayden were so dynamic in the first two stories. Maybe I built my expectations too high, but this just lacked something to me , it was just ok. Still, I enjoy this author and I'm hoping Bea gets her own story.
This is the story of Jesse and Hayden. Jesse was married to a tyrant older man who was very abusive. He took pleasure in having her poisoned so she would lose her baby. After he died of a heart attack could Jesse ever Mary again? During her marriage she was close friends with three gentlemen whom
she shunned society with by going to gaming halls. Jess eventually married Hayden. This is my first read by this author and I want to read the other books in this series. Don't be discouraged by how lon
