Sometimes Hoogie feels like the hole in the middle of a donut. She isn’t big and dependable like her sister Pumpkin. She isn’t tiny and sweet like her brother Tweezle. She’s just…Hoogie. Every day she hears, “You’re too big for this” and "You’re too small for that" until there’s such a big little pain inside of her that she doesn’t know what to do. Luckily Mom and Dad are ...more

I liked this one pretty well but it felt a bit choppy at times and the ending seemed rather abrupt.

"Pumpkin was the First, Tweezle is the Newest, Hoogie is in the Middle."
Hoogie in the Middle by Stephanie McLellan is one of my new favourite books! I love the art work and I love the theme of the story. As the eldest of four children I saw my two middle siblings have to deal with some of the issues that Hoogie overcame. I can't wait to share it with my baby when he/she is born! Everyone should have a copy of Hoogie in the Middle, whether they are the eldest, middle, or youngest child.

A book for everybody who's ever felt like "the pause in the middle of a giggle." Hoogie is the middle child and feels very left out. How her parents help her is very sweet. I'm handing this one to my middle child to read. :)

When Hoogie's little big pain grows in the middle of her tummy and explodes, her parents take her aside for a little 'Hoogie Time'. They play and remind her that the sun is in the middle of the solar system and the pearl is in the middle of the oyster.

The travails and advantages of being the middle child. Not sure what sort critter Hoogie is supposed to be.
