It's sheer coincidence that brings Anthony Gethryn to the scene where theatrical promoter Sigsbee lies drowned in his bathtub. But the whole scene seems unreal to the alert Gethryn, and he soon realizes that it's neither an accident nor a suicide, but murder. There are such a lot of people, though, who wanted Sigsbee dead! When a second death follows, Gethryn realizes who the culprit must be--but can he find any evidence?

Philip MacDonald (who some give as 1896 or 1899 as his date of birth) was the grandson of the writer George MacDonald and son of the author Ronald MacDonald and the actress Constance Robertson.
