Firestarters: 100 Job Profiles to Inspire Young Women by Kelly Beatty and Dale Salvaggio Bradshaw is a great book to share with readers in a mother-daughter book club. My daughter who is in 11th grade read it at the same time I did, and we found lots to talk about regarding potential careers to match her interests.

I can't say this book was helpful for me.

There are 100 profiles of different women. But the profiles always seemed to leave out the information I was hoping they'd contain. As I read each profile I found that a lot of questions popped up, but when I finished I found that those questions dispapated as I got annoyed by the lack of information.

I ended up finishing this book with a frown and a headache.

Recommends it for: career path changing women
I enjoyed reading about other women's career paths and how they came to where they are at in their lives. Despite not being interested in some careers, its still interesting to read their advice. Its also nice to see women in places you wouldn't normally see them.

Seeing all the different directions women can take in life made me feel much better. Like the woman who had a Psych degree, but became a teacher, then was an Outward Bound instructor, and eventually became a blueberry farmer and crafts exported.

Eleven years in advertising broadcast production, Kelly Beatty worked to bring other people's creative ideas to life. She thought, "If I'm going to work this hard, I might as well be producing my own work." Her love of architecture, photography and art brought her to Meredith College in Raleigh, NC where she earned a second major in interior design, with a minor in studio art. The first degree is ...more
