Barely twenty and brokenhearted, Gabriella arrives in the beautiful Tuscan city of Siena on a bitter winter day looking for solace. In the brochures, Siena was sunny and warm, but in reality, she feels cold and lonely. She can't communicate with the locals, or her American roommates, who are struggling with their own demons. The only company she finds is at night in the ...more

College student Gabriella spends a semester in Italy, hoping a change of scene will help her get over her broken heart. She and her friends study, travel, flirt, eat lots of pasta, hook up with cute locals, and drink rivers of alcohol. Not much actually happens in this story, but the author does a great job of capturing the right details: the mortification of being unable to communicate in a new language; the discomfort of trying to study in a poorly heated apartment while one's roommates are ...more

The absolute worst book I've ever read. Full of grammatical and spelling errors. It's written as poorly as 50 Shades of Grey without all the juicy bits. No real plot, no prose or descriptions, felt like I was reading through a teenager's text messages. Absolute garbage.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book; I had not read anything by Papa before. This was a great book. I felt very connected to Gabriella and her life in Italy (a place I have always wanted to go to). I will be watching for other books by Papa in the future.

This book brought back so many wonderful (and sometimes unsettling) memories of my own year abroad. Funny, sweet, thought and a just a little bit nostalgic.

So enjoyed this great read..... Made me long to hop a plane for some Italian adventures of my own. Second of Ariella papa's books I've read but certainly not my last.

Loved it, light but very emotional at the end.

Beautifully written and a real joy to read. It's not your traditional, coming of age story - it's a lot better. Added bonus: you spend your days experiencing Italy and European travel through the eyes of a 21 year old. I didn't want it to end.

I got really into the characters and the story. I am happy with the ending but I wanted more. Maybe a sequel? I also now really want pasta!
