At first glance, this book looks set to examine a rather novel concept: Gothic fiction filtered through ecocriticism and environmental awareness. Some of the chapters do deal with this quite well, but others are mere book or film reviews, glossing over their subjects with parenthetical mentions. The early sections of this book are the best, where a link between canonical Gothic (i.e the works of Radcliffe, Lewis, et al) and a stark awareness of the natural environment is ably demonstrated.
