Viroli's short work focuses in the figure of the Prince as national redeemer. The approach touches on the conventional real politic Machiavelli is usually noted for. Viroli's addition is to conduct a close literary and rhetorical analysis of the final "Exhortation" together with questions on the occasion of its writing. This is a useful text for those already familiar with The Prince, but disappointing for those who seek an introduction.
