I do have the 2009 edition. As a lover of Western history, this book has taught me a lot of stuff about United States of America. It is not just the usual History and Encyclopedia because it is really interactive.

An interesting introduction or reminder of all the presidents from Washington to Obama. Gives origin and how they got to be President. There are sidebars on all the elections and how they went. Some interesting information on the times. Lots of pictures.
Among other things, it's a good reminder that good intentions often have unintended consequences: Prohibition and gangsters.

Okay so I've only read about 20 pages, but I know this is a book I will dabble in when I feel like it, so I'm marking it as "read". Also, we have the updated version with Obama in it. It's a really fun, educational read about our US Presidents. I've been surprised at how volatile American politics has always been...I thought it was just these days. The author did a great job of summarizing each president and their tenure while also including historically significant events from their time. I've ...more

If you only purchase one book on the U.S. Presidents to keep as reference for your children this is the one. Not only does it give basic information about each president and his term it also gives facts about other events and people who were also significant during those years in the United States. If there is not a more current edition (this one only going up to 2001) I hope Scholastic soon releases one.

I am really enjoying this youth encyclopedia of the American Presidents. It reads a bit like a text book, but it is filled with pictures, and fun facts. (George Washington had a pair of teeth made from a hippopotamus, etc). I am learning more about many presidents whose names I had barely heard oto before. Nice to read American history by way of each presidents times. Each president has a chapter of 4-5 pages. Recommended for anyone who wants a brief knowledge of who these men were and what their ...more

I'm pleasantly surprised that this kids encyclopedia of the presidents is willing to point out some of the controversial aspects of each administration (eg Iran Contra for Reagan, Whitewater for Clinton). Each article ends on a downer, though. I'm learning a lot from the brief articles, the sidebars that describe then-current events, and the election races.
