One out of five canaries.

Here’s the thing, canaries. This isn’t really an urban fantasy detective story with a military edge, and it doesn’t really deal with a government agency trying to protect the world from evil. In fact, it’s more a kind of coming-of-age story for half-vampire Nina as she realizes almost everything she’d known about herself and her parent’s deaths was a lie and has to navigate the clumsy attentions of two hunky dudes as Mr. Baddie tries to kill her.

If I had known that goin

Hell's Belle tries to mix the darker shades of UF with the light tone of some PNR.
The mix wasn't the right one for me, but there will be plenty readers who'll love its lighter side (to balance the gritty plot).

There are a few points that detracted to the story (for me):
--The YA feel that I found didn't match the plot.
Nina is 30 yo, but I read her as a teen in both behavior and skills.
--The inconsistence of some characters, both the heroine and Max. The latter seemed almost psychotic in his beh

Cover & title - 3 out of 5
Favourite quote - "I refuse to bow to the google gods."
Favourite character - Nina

I love a good UF, this is no exception. The main character is a kickass protagonist, she has cool abilities & as the book goes on you discover more about her past and her.
The supporting characters are great, humorous & they also have cool abilities. The love interest Max is a tough FIB agent who sparks with Nina as soon as they meet. The have a brief tryst but it looks as if

Having enjoyed the two "prequel shorts" set in the UF world of Hell's Belle and featuring Nina Martinez out in the field with her Blood Ops partner, the smart-ass vampire Frankie, I was looking forward to reading this full-length novel.

Unfortunately, the shorts basically whet my appetite for something that does not exist: namely, a novel featuring more of Nina and Frankie working cases as part of the Blood Ops team. Why? Well, I guess I should have paid more attention to the fine print of the b

I enjoyed the book. It did very well with easing me into the world. Unfortunately I did feel like it was just like any other UF/Paranormal book.

What I really liked about the book (that parts that made it stand out from the other books) was her background story - who she is, who her parents are. (view spoiler)
Hell's Belle's cover caught my eye and the mention of a half-human, half-vampire heroine who is "part of an elite secret team of government agents who quietly take down rogue monsters" sealed the deal. Unfortunately, the story fell a bit short for me.

As a heroine, Nina came out the gates strong. However, as the story progressed, she seemed to go from strong to dependent and naive. The basis of the story and the wide range of supernaturals (weres, vampires, banshees, witches, hell hound, ghosts,

*My Thoughts*

Hell's Belle features 33-year old Nina Martinez who, as a mixed blood (witch/vampire), is part of a group known as the Blood Ops who are under the guise of the Department of Defense. The team also includes Frankie (vampire), Dr. Lochlan O'Malley (Druid), and Darcy (Banshee). It is the job of the Blood Ops to go after rogue supernaturals and put them down once they step out of line. Nina's "other" job is bartender and co-owner of Babes with her

I absolutely loved this book and was heart broken that it ended. The characters were believable in what they are and what they are able to do (quite ironic for a fantasy book!). Nina and her gang of "misfits" make for a truly humorous and action filled ride. The plot was compelling and the twist at the end was totally unexpected. I cannot wait for the next book to see what t

Are you in the mood for some action. Look no further; you have found it with Karen Greco's first "Hells's Belle" novel. It has the action, suspense and characters to match. Nina is a half-vampire, half-witch and what a combination that is. Her Blood Ops team, consists of a Banshee, a vampire (who is extremely old), her ever helpful Aunt Babe and Dr. "O". And lest I forget, she gains an ever faithful "familiar" in the form of a Hell Hound. This is an outstanding novel for any that enjoys Fantasy, ...more
I really didn't like this one. In fact I didn't finish it.

I disliked Nina, she is a whiny 30+ year old who acts like a teenager. I also didn't like the authors style of writing. Why do authors insist on their female protagonists being clumsy girls who are always falling on their ass when they are supposed to be kick ass vampire killers?

Not for me at all but who knows you may love it.
Ach! I really enjoyed the prequel book to this which was full of humour, action and a great partnership with vampire Frankie, so I could not wait to read this book! But I was disappointed by it! NB: The prequel I read in ebook form is the actual prologue printed in this book.

Nina has returned to her home in Rhode Island alone, and is working in a bar owned by family, keeping an eye out for anything strange. She is attacked by someone who knows that she is part vampire and the whole thing is wit

Recently I been reading a string of mediocre books. So, it is a real pleasure to get out of my reading funk thanks to "Hell's Belle." It is checked full of all of the things I love such as great world building, interesting and diverse characters, plenty of action, an interesting plot and hot romance.

I really enjoyed Hell's Belle, first in the series of the same name by debut author Karen Greco. This is definitely a 'me' book and the reason I picked it up. I enjoyed all of the characters, obviously Nina is the main female so she was going to be the best, she had a lot of traits that I love in a main character - smart, kick ass, fun and extremely capable of looking out for herself. I loved the rest of the people she surrounded herself with too and they all seem to have their own story to

Bad-ass heroine + hot male hero + unpredictable plot twists = AWESOME NOVEL.

I really loved this novel. It’s not the first time I read urban fantasy books. Also not the first time I read about a world wherein vampires, werewolves and leprechauns exist but this is unquestionably one of my favorites!

The idea of Nina and the team, the Blood Ops, working for the Department of Defense is exceptional. Having an Aunt who is a witch, a vampire for a best friend and another best friend who is a banshee

Hell's Belle was a refreshing new take on the supernatural-kick-ass-heroine scheme. Working for some secret task force, Nina's job is to fight evil supernatural creatures which cause havoc in the human world. But this time, Nina herself is the target of an attack by some evil vampire. Being a half vampire herself, she soon finds out that she also has witch genes running in her blood, which makes her an extremely dangerous weapon. Now the fight is on, and together with her vampire team partner, w ...more

Awesome Story! I really enjoyed this book. I thought the characters were unique and the story one of a kind. There were a lot of different elements in this story that were unique and I really liked that it wasn't your usually run of the mill vampire story, at the same time there was still a lot of kicking ass, which is always good.

the story centers around Nina a undercover DOD Blood OPS Agent who is just looking to relax and have a little down time in her home town, when someone starts killing w

This book opens with a completely unnecessary yet totally awesome prologue in which we get to know the world and the characters with a special guest appearance by Mayor Corey Booker, vampire slayer. Yes, you read that right. If you think I was not drawing sparkly hearts and smiley faces all over this book when I read that then you don't know me at all.

As you can imagine, I was prepared to adore this book after that opening. Although the rest of it never matched up to that level of che

I finished this book today and I'm still not sure if I like Nina. She's very abrupt and crass imo. She doesn't appreciate Frankie, whom I adore. He seems very loyal, protective, snarky, funny and fierce. I don't believe she appreciates him as a friend. Max doesn't leave any kind of impression other than hot. He's turned into a bezerker by Bertrand. Ehhhh, so? I love Babe, she cracks me up. I hope Casper finally gets indentified. Dog is adorbs, but PLEASE give him a name Nina! I will continue wit ...more

I normally get bored with some parts of a book although I read them nonstop. WIth this particular novel, I did not find any part of it to be uninteresting or slightly boring. The voice of it was compelling and straight forward. For a first debut novel, I believe this is worth about five stars. I also believe Ms. (or Mrs.) Greco has a wonderful first book that should make for a very interesting series.

Nina Martinez has come home to Providence, RI.
It is looking like something may have come to find her. Her family is avoiding eye contact, mutering excuses for not telling her the whole story, and basically, leaving Nina vulnerable to some very big secrets from her past.

This book is 5-stars, no holds barred, full on paranormal kicking-BUTT! I love the main character, who is half vampire and half human. Or is that really right? Hrmmm. The story has a full team behind her, who are part of the DOD

This book didn't blow my mind but it was definitely worth the read. I enjoyed the story line of a half vamp/ half witch trying to dodge a strong vamp w a grudge. The romance aspect of it was slight and there was one sexy scene that was fairly scant so if your not into too much sexy with your books then you should be fine. I, however, wish there had been more between she and Max and Frankie to provide more intrigue in that area. as for the heroine, Nina could stand to be more kick ass maybe, or m ...more

I am so excited… I have met a new kickass supernatural heroine to add to my favorites list! Nina is no wilting petal when it comes to facing things that go bump in the night. In fact, the government recruited her to take care of their supernatural problem under the radar. Nina may seem like a simple human vampire hybrid in her new regular Jane kind of life in Rhode Island, but that train is about to go speeding off into the sunset without her.

The story starts (after a prologue which I'll talk about in a minute) with Nina working in a bar in Providence. A cute guy comes in, but she's quickly distracted by the guy who snarls at her then tries to slit her throat. Thankfully, since Nina is part vampire, she heals quickly enough that it doesn't cause a big problem, and in the chaos, the cute guy turns out to be a cop, working for the FBI. By the end of chapter one, I was hooked.

Apart from the attack on her in the bar, there are also sever

Book Review- Hell’s Belle by Karen Greco

Nina works for the Blood Ops department of government. She is half vampire and half human. She lost her parents when she was little and she grew up on the Blood ops compound in Nevada. She is now home in Providence, RI helping her aunt with their bar. When her mother was killed, Nina became part owner. One night while working in the bar she is confronted by another vampire, Marcello. She is saved by an FBI agent, Max, who happened to be in the bar. Nina ha

Nina Martinez is a one of kind. Daughter to vampire and a witch there is no one else like her. When her parents died, her Aunt couldn’t care for her because of her unique abilities, or so she was lead to believe… She was raised in a secret compound for supernatural creatures and was highly trained to take down rogue monsters and vampires along with others with special abilities. She now works for a secret elite group within the Department of Defense. Not even the President is aware of it.

I've spent close to twenty years in the New York City area, working in publicity and marketing for the entertainment industry. A life-long obsession with exorcists and Dracula drew me to urban fantasy, where I can decapitate characters with impunity. After writing plays for a long time, then leaving that behind, I decided to try to write a novel. HELL'S BELLE is my debut.
