I got this book free based mainly on the summary and the idea of reading about the daughter of Van Helsing seemed like a new and original idea. BAIT pulled me in from the beginning. I'd state Blake can write a good story...but, I was pretty far into the story before I realized it was a YA book (the woman on the cover IS NOT 16 years old)...not that that's bad, it isn''s good. I appreciated the writing even more once I realized the genre.

What I Liked:
1. The writing and the length

I was captivated right from the 1st page of this stellar novel. Blake’s writing pulled me in even before I’d figured out what was going on. The author kept pulling me further and further into the story until I couldn’t put the novel down. It was a phenomenal rush!

With this novel Blake took the notion of a hereditary Van Helsing legacy and ran with it fast and far. It was a very unique take on an old story that kept me captivated throughout. Blake’s amazing storytelling definitely helped with thi

I really like the idea behind this book, with a child of the Van Helsing line and all. I was relieved to see that the story's monsters involved more than just vampires (of which I'm not the biggest fan). In fact, throughout the story vampires are something more mentioned in passing. The major monsters at play are the different forms of ghosts and what the book refers to as "border monsters".

Although the love story the book revolves around is your typical romance (boy meets girl, they hate each

Holy Fricken Moly!! From the very first page I was swept away, with surprises around every corner, kick-ass action, addictive characters and a love story for the ages, this story will have you hooked too. K.C. Blake has created a wonderful world full of Hunters, wraiths, vampires, shifters, ghosts and loads more. When I read the blurb all I saw was "Van Helsing's daughter" and I was sold. I'm a huge fan of the movie (starring Hugh Jackman) and the book, which I have in my collection. When I star ...more

I was given this book via ebook a while back on a goodreads thread in exchange for a review. I'm never the best at reading ebooks.I only do when there is no other option, so when i got to page 60, i thought "why not just buy the paperback"? So I did.

The premise of the book really interested me. The author is heavily influenced by The CW's Supernatural and that's prolly my favorite show to date. But I couldn't help but find this book kind of similar to my favorite tv show.

First of all, let me sta

Wow, to tell you the truth, I don't usually read romance novels, (I'm a guy) and I don't read paranormal fiction. But when the author asked me to read this book, when I started it, I was hooked.

First, I noticed how smooth the writing is. This author knows her stuff. I read on her author profile that she used to write for Harlequin. I was not surprised. She commands your attention to the story, and holds you there. I found absolutely no errors in this book.

Now, I'm a guy who, at times when bored

I received this book in an exchange for a review..... and I give it 5 stars!!! It was a fabulous book and I cannot believe that I did not read this book sooner! That is the first thing I will say..... secondly I love Bay-Lee and Nick Gallos.... seriously! I can only say one thing, and that is that this book takes off from the very beginning. There was no waiting for it to "get good".... it just was! Basically... you can read the blurb for the book, here on Goodreads...... so I will not go into t ...more

I was given this book in return for an honest review. This book is AWESOME!

No doubt this book is not only a great read, but it is written so beautifully that i can't wait for the 2nd book! :)

This book surprised me with twists and turns until the very end, which is very hard to do for me. And i love how K.C Blake has decided to go with the idea of a character who is the daughter of VanHelsing, very original :)

This book had left me wanting more as i had finished the book all in one day, again i ca

When you have grown up all your life, moving from place to place all the time because there are real monsters hunting you, you sleep with a dagger under your pillow. Bay-Lee Bishop does, but on the night that she is visited by dead rocker Tyler Beck, she doesn't have a chance to reach for it. Good thing because they become the main characters of the story, Bait (Order of the Spirit Realm Book 1). After Tyler's visit, Bay-Lee is visited by a Reaper, and finally it is

The beginning of this book is quite absorbing and the passages well-written. I enjoyed it and would have given it three and half stars, if half stars were possible. In the end, I rounded down to three rather than up to four because the story did not keep my interest all the way through. My attention began to lag about two-thirds into the book, after one too many plot twists that didn't make all that much sense to me. A few negative events in the book could have been avoided or prepared for if ou ...more

(3.5 Stars)

"Bait" is one of the most unique YA books that I've read in a while. It was very unexpected and the overall plot was interesting. So, if I enjoyed this book so much why did I only give it 3.5 Stars? The answer is a small thing really but it bothered me. I had trouble with the author's use of the Van Helsing name without any real correlation to the original character. It just seemed like it came out of the blue.

It’s not easy being the infamous Van Helsing’s daughter. Having to constantly move and hide her identity while on the run from monsters isn’t exactly what a typical teenager has to deal with. In Bait, the first book in the Order of the Spirit Realm series, by Kasi Blake, Bay-Lee is finally able to attend her father’s school for hunters. She has wanted to become a hunter to avenge her mother’s death, but she soon learns that something is killing hunters on their birthdays. If that wasn’t bad enou ...more

Great start to a new series. The plot is good, the characters are interesting and believable. Bay-Lee is in interesting girl, living her life for revenge, but life gets in the way. This is a complex beginning to what I'm sure will be a fantastic story. I can't wait for the next installment in this series to come out. Fantastic!!

This book is great. A story about the daughter of Van Helsing is a great idea very unique, the story sets place between two people: Bay-Lee the daughter of Van Helsing and Nick ex-fake rock star with a dark secret.

Bay-Lee had spent her entire life in hiding pretending to be 'Michelle'. As the so called 'pretend' daughter of the worlds greatest hunter she has to be protected - the whole daughter story line was way to complicated- But when her fake/real father Va

This was an incredible read - I literally downloaded Kindle just to finish. I can't wait to start the second in this series!

Bay-Lee and Nick (sometimes Tyler) have such great chemistry, and the plot is so well written, it keeps you up well past your bedtime. Reapers (who knew they were ghosts?), monsters, fighting, and oh, the romance. I don't want to say anything to give it away . . . simply read it.

I'm conflicted on what I should rate this. In fact I wasn't going to review it at all. I'm not sure why I changed my mind, but I wish I didn't wait so long because now I'm sure I forgot a lot of what I would have said. I should start off say I did enjoy this book and I think the author is talented. She did a good job at bringing it all together and not leaving a lot of loose ends. I fully expected to like Bait so going into it I was pretty sure it wouldn't take me long to finish. It didn't. In fact, while at work, I'd find myself thinking about how I couldn't wait to get home to read more.

Here we have Van Helsing's daughter who has just been enrolled in Van Helsing's school in which students train to be hunters. What do they hunt? Monsters. Werewolves, vampires, ghosts (of all sorts), many others, and occasionally each other. Along the way she meets a boy and finds hersel

The premise of this series is seriously intriguing. Enter young Bay-Lee Bishop: the daughter of a VanHelsing. The VanHelsing's are an elite family at the top of the food chain of Montster Hunter's. After a few disturbing visitors show up in Bay-Lee's room one night, she ends up looking into how things work in the Spirit Realm. Can I just say that K.C. Blake has done it again. She has pulled off another story that flowed flawless and had so many toss and turns that I could not just sit there and not scream and yell at my kindle. I was completely blown away by this book. I've been trying to cut back on reviewing books lately so I can work my way through the never-ending-always-growing TBR pile, so I wasn't sure if I should try this book, it was only when I looked it up on Goodreads and saw it had such a high rating that I thought I should give it a go. I had visions of Buffy the Vampire Slayer while reading this with the addition of a school for supernatural hunters. Bay-Lee is the daughter of the legendary Van Helsing and following in the footsteps of such a legend has it's downsides, namely preconceived ideas of who she is and what she is capable of, and special treatment she receives. Bay-Lee isn't exactly interested in making friends and things that most girls her age are into like shopping and boys. She is more concerned about avenging th ...more

I debated very thoroughly with myself about how I was going to rate this book. There were some parts that I was just a little iffy about, and I wasn't so sure how my first impressions would relate to the rest of the book. Sometimes things felt a little out of place or just not developed enough, but then on practically the very next page I would read something that completely set me off laughing. Bait came highly recommended to me by my sister-in-law and fellow blogger, Holly @ Words Fueled by Love. So I decided to check it out and join the blog tour. I liked the idea of a series being about Van Helsing's daughter. While there might be a whole heap of books dedicated to all things Van Helsing, I've never actually read any of them, so Bait came off as being an original (or at least, new) concept to me.

Bait does have an insta-love kind of relationship going on that I know many readers will
Definitely made me smile, very YA, a very good read. And that's what I loved, Bait was truly a YA story without bordering on that proverbial crossover line. It was also the story Bay-Lee, Van Helsings daughter, how cool is that! That is what initially drew my attention. Don't think I've ever seen a story line like Bait before. Very original in concept and well written in the visual. You definitely got a sense of Bay-Lee's world right from the start.

The other thing I liked a lot was the author's
