Love Monster is a slightly hairy monster trying to fit in with the cuddly residents of Cutesville. This is more likely to find an audience with an adult who's been single far longer than they'd care to rather than say a 4 year old child.

I love the artwork in this book! Big, clear, bright pages filled with color! Pale blues, soft yellows, pinks, and warm reds. Beautiful pages filled with love. Or rather the search for love. Our googly-eyed monster looks high & low, this way and that way for the love of his life. Will he find his love or go home empty hearted?

”You see, sometimes, when you least expect it…love finds you.”

A cute Valentine’s Day read. :)

Sidenote: I did have a but with this book…

Love Monster by Rachel Bright is a cute, warm children's book about how sometimes love finds you when you least expect it to. Monster lives in Cutesville where everyone is fluffy and adorable except him. Instead of feeling down and moping around, Monster decides to set out and find the one who will love him for who he is. After a long and hard search, the usually optimistic monster gives up and decides to quit and go back home. Sad and dejected he waits for a bus and when it pulls up to pick him ...more

As an adult, we sometimes forget how sweet and wonderful children's books can be. While being pushed in a wheelchair by my mom in the bookstore today, I was lucky enough to see this on one of the table displays. I had to picked it up. I am so glad I did. In the middle of Books-A-Million, I read this aloud. Not only did I love it, I knew that I would have adored it as a child.

With some darn cute illustrations, the story was made even more beautiful. The story itself was short and sweet, and packe

This is a great book teachers could use to address difference and emotional turmoil amongst pupils in their class.

Love Monster centres on a young animal seeking an affectionate connection with someone in a world where he feels everyone else is outwardly more adorable. The setting is 'Cutesville' a land filled with fluffy kittens, puppies and bunnies, where our protagonist feels he doesn't look the part to endear love. The story is sold to its audience as an uplifting piece as the Love Monster t

People that have given this book less than 5 stars are being hyper critical. The best children's book I've ever read with the simple message, you are loved. For every child who feels like an out cast, this is their book. It's humorous at the beginning, and teaches kids to be who they are and good things will come. The art work is amazing, the writing is great and the theme is very well done. I do see this for kids in maybe second grade and higher though, I don't think there is much in-group vs. ...more

I love the illustrations and the font of this story. It's a great read aloud for preschool children to teach them being different is okay!

This story absolutely warmed my heart. A not so cute monster grew up in Cutesville around fluffy cute things that were always being loved and adopted. Since the monster was not a typical "fuzzy wuzzy" animal he was always lonely because no one would play with him. He decides to leave town in search of a friend more like him. This is another story that can teach 4-6 year olds how to be accepting of one another. The underlying message of making everyone feel warm and welcome is portrayed well in t ...more

My almost five-year-old granddaughter loves all things about monsters so when I found this at the library, I checked it out for her next visit. It is bright, cute and colorful, but it isn’t going to be a favorite. Maybe because the problem wasn’t stated well enough, I don’t know, but my granddaughter and I thought it was a bit of a ho-hum story, and when the monster only found another friend that looked just the same, even I wondered why. Couldn’t all the mixture of fluffy and cute animals (read ...more

"An odd-looking monster, who's the only non-cute creature in Cutesville, finally meets his true love (another odd-looking monster) after a long search. Bright concludes that "sometimes, when you least expect it...love finds you," but the ending of this lightweight love story isn't particularly unexpected. The chatty narrative and bold illustrations do, however, offer humorous moments."

Although the ending of this book is not unexpected, it g

It's hard being the only monster in Cutesville, home of fluffy kitties, puppies, and bunnies. So Love Monster, the only hairy, googly-eyed resident, packs a trunk and heads out to look for love. Unfortunately, even though he thinks to bring a map and some donuts, he seems to keep looking for love in all the wrong places.

Readers will adore Love Monster's fluffy, sad little face. It struck me as sort of a really early lesson in codependency. Don't be sad, Love Monster! Love yourself, and maybe lo

Rachel Bright’s Love Monster is a heartwarming tale about one little monster’s search for love. Monster (as we’ll call him) is the only hairy, slightly googly-eyed monster in Cutesville, and being the only monster among the utterly cute is not easy. So, Monster sets out to find someone to love him just the way he is, but his search does not go well. That is, until he stops searching for love and lets it find him.

This is such a sweet tale that just gives you all the warm fuzzies inside! Bright ha

In a world that gravitates to fluffy bunnies and cuddly kittens, Love Monster just can't cut a break. He's just a little too odd looking to fit in or to find love. After looking just about everywhere he could possibly look for someone to love, love ends up finding him. This ah-worthy picture book, filled with color-drenched solar etchings [the illustrator says they use ultraviolet light to create printing plates] has a wonderful message that encourages those of us who are still looking for love. ...more

Life's not easy for a hairy, googley-eyed monster living in Cutesville, so Love Monster sets off to find someone who will love him as is. He faces many ups and downs, but does he finally find love? You'll have to read it to find out! This would be a great read aloud maybe focusing on opposites, love, self acceptance, etc. Several little aside notes throughout add humor (i.e. the tumbleweed labeled "tumbleweed". Both adults and children should find the book readable and will find Love Monster a r ...more

His rather fruitless search gets no results so he decides to give up. Just then, when he has lost all hope...love finds him! Ok time to ‘fess up. In our house we are definitely fans of the googly eyes. Any craft activity which involves the stick on variety is always a winner! So it is fair to say the Love Monster had an unfair advantage of securing a place in our hearts and on our book shelf when it unexpectedly landed on our door mat.

Love monster is in the uncomfortable position of being the only monster in a world full of cute and fluffy beings. Feeling unloved, Love monster decides to take matters in to his own ha

Love Monster is such a lovely little book, we really loved reading it.

Monster is a little bit different, he's not cute and fluffy, and living in Cutesville that can be pretty tough. He is unloved, so he goes in search of someone to love him, for just being himself. He searches high and low, with no luck. I just wanted to pick this lonely little fellow up an give him a big hug. But in the end love finds him, when he least expects it.

The illustrations in this book are wonderful, they are bold, br

As expected, this book got several “awwws” from parents at the end. I am pretty sure I even spotted one of the teachers at my outreach visit wiping a tear from her eye! It certainly is a sweet story about unsuccessfully searching for love and just when you’re about to give up, finally discovering contentment when love finds you. I especially appreciate the moments in the story that call upon the reader to inspect the illustrations to figure out what’s happening.

this book has a MUST lesson, a MUST lesson is a lesson that people should learn,

Me and my husband have to read this book (or 'love monster and the best present ever') nearly every single night to our toddlers (who are 1 and 3) or they refuse to sleep. They adore this book its illustrated perfectly and brilliant for toddlers and young children with bright, colorful pages and exciting drawings its sure to draw in young children and put a smile on their face, would definatley recommend this book

I really enjoyed this book because of its unique plot. The love monster doesn't have any friends who look like him, so he goes in search of a friend. My favorite part might be that he looks high, low, and "middle-ish." I think the kids at storytime enjoyed it as well. The unique, bright pictures combined with a funny plot and encouraging message at the end make for a solid book in my opinion.

I was expecting a Valentiney story when I picked this up to share with a school and was surprised to find such a sassy, funny, monster love story. It's a book that's on the edge with the sentence structure and subtle older theme of love finds you when you least expect it. It could be paired well with Zombie in Love by Kelly DiPucchio.

Reviewed from a library copy.

This is one of the sweetest books ever. It reminds adults and teaches kids that no matter what you will find love and someone out there will love you. Monster is like everyone of us in this world of beautiful people, just wanting someone to love us for our monster, hairy selves. The illustrations are just as cute as the story. I absolutely recommend this book.

I don't think the monster needed to find someone who looked like him for love. I'm sure he would have enjoyed having someone like himself around in Cutesville though. I get what the author was going for. I did enjoy the story of his search, which was kind of cute. Actually , I thought the monster was cute as well rather than funny looking..

Rachel is a writer of words, drawer of pictures and champion of silver linings. She exhibits widely, writes tirelessly and frequently creates slightly unhinged characters.

Her written work includes children’s stories and poems, clever advertising copy and lots of other stuff besides. Her illustrative work is a smorgasboard of giant, hand-printed poems, mind-bogglingly detailed gouache illustrations
