I did not read this book cover to cover because my son is an infant, but I believe I will return to this book as he ages and reaches new developmental stages. Because the book is old (I read the second edition, which was revised in 1992), some of the information is quite dated but many sections are still very timely.

The basic childcare information is straightforward - especially to readers who have not consulted other books - but I most appreciated the sections that discuss children's perceptio

This was a lot of basic parenting advice, some seemed dated (I think it's 20 yrs old) with a few good reminders on cultural parenting (respect, racism, etc) that parents of white children don't necessarily realize the importance of in black culture.
