The title is a bit of a misnomer. The book has very little to do with the rise and fall of pharma. What this book does show is how big name drugs are created, the drama and science behind them and how the idiosyncrasies of scientists and companies can change the composition and success of a drug. Having some college level chemistry is important for understanding some of the cooler points in this book. The writing is a little sloppy but the topics and information is very interesting. I give this book three stars because I thought some of the descriptions of how the drugs were developed are worth a careful reading. I really think they should have used a more "serious" tile for the text has a little bit more "density" than the announced in the jacket. Nothing wrong with that, though, but a little surprising.
