Just a Cowboy and His Baby (Spikes & Spurs #6)
by Carolyn Brown

One determined, hell-on-wheels cowgirl. One equally determined, sexier-than-hell cowboy. One innocent baby, who suddenly takes center stage and everybody's priorities are suddenly up for grabs.

With a young baby dropped in his lap, bronco rider Trace Coleman's world is turned upside down. Suddenly, Gemma O'Donnell, his stiffest competition on the rodeo scene, is now the one person who...more

Anything you can do, I can do better... or at least when it comes to bronc riding.

I know when I read a book by Carolyn Brown, I'm in for a treat. The writing flows and the words leap from the pages. I'm immersed in the world of the characters and tend to finish the book in one sitting. The same was the case for Just a Cowboy and His Baby. I devoured this book in what seemed like no time at all and thought about the characters after I...more

In this Brown novel it's Gemma who gets her shot at love. She is a bronc rider and is competing for the grand prize. She is tough as nails and wont anyone walk over her, in this manly world. But she is also kind, and yes sassy.

In comes hunky Trace, of course she has checked him out and he her. But he is her most fierce competition so no chance of anything happening. But who am I kidding, of course something will happen. These two will spend months travelling the same roads, going to the same pla...more

This book failed to live up to my expectations. I love cowboys as heroes and feisty heroines, but there was something int the story that did not feel right.

Gemma is a determined young woman who will stop at nothing to win. She doesn't have time for a relationship, much less with Trace, a fellow competitor, who renders her silly at just the sight of his grin. Trace, likewise, doesn't want to get involved with Gemma, but every time he looks into her mossy green eyes, he can't help himsel...more

This was so lame. I'm so sorry that I wasted an entire day on this.

Sometimes I judge a publishing house on the calibre of books that they put out, and this is why it has surprised me that a book at this writing level was published by Sourcebooks. It was actually rather shocking.

I don't mean to hurt anyone's feelings or jar them into a crying fit or something. I'm just being sincerely honest here and saying that I did not enjoy this at all.

For me it all boils down to the writing. The storyline I...more

There are many things I can count on from Carolyn Brown story. I’m assured of getting smart-talking women, hot sexy cowboys and witty dialogue between the sexes. Carolyn Brown’s latest in the Spikes and Spurs series, Just a Cowboy and His Baby, is no exception and is true to form for this author. I love this series! I love returning to Ringgold, Texas and getting another chance to visit with the O’Donnell family and their friends and nei...more

Cute book. Great rodeo atmosphere. The conflict is very mild and the baby trope is a bit of an afterthought, but the characters are funny and endearing. A very fun read.

Loved it!

Gosh those sweet cowboys are lovely!

One of the many things I enjoy about author Carolyn Brown’s writing is the way she shares families with you.

Brown gives family members zany and fun personalities you can’t help but love and want to know better. Then she branches the families out giving individual members their own story and ties many of the families together through friendships and marriage making for one big, happy family.

JUST A COWBOY AND HIS BABY is a fun example of bring two of these families together.

Gemma O’Donnell has a g...more

Alright, I am just going to put this out there. I am at my breaking point with Cowboy romances. Why do they have to be so cliched? I am usually a fan of author Carolyn Brown, but lately they have just gone downhill in my opinion.

I couldn't bring myself to care what happened to either of the characters or the plot. The story itself was stalled in some parts and then rushed in other areas. Of course since it is a cowboy romance, the romance is set in a rodeo setting. Can't we just have a cowboy ro...more

I like the plot and the characters Just A Cowboy and his baby. Did not like the swearing and all the sex and sex talk. Thier was a lot of this story I just skipped over. I liked the humor. That Gemma was riding bronks in the rodeo. Thing that made me mad was the guy putting the drug in the drink.
Gemma O'Donnell is a hair dresser who just started riding full time as a rodeo Bronc
riding. Her goal is to be the second bronc riding champion. Gemma c...more

I received this ARC courtesy of my friends at Netgalley & Sourcebooks.

This is one hot & spicy cowboy romance with loads of laughs. Wonderfully talented author Carolyn Brown scores another hit with " Just A Cowboy & His Baby ", the sixth entry in her Spikes & Spurs series. The story features sassy cowgirl Gemma O'Donnell & sexy cowboy Trace Coleman.
These two rodeo rivals hook up on the road to rodeo fame. But when an old flame drops an early Christmas present in Trace's lap...more

Gemma is one tough cowgirl; the only woman in the bronc riding competition. She’s spunky, sexy and one hell of a rider and keeps all the boys on their toes.

One of the great things about Gemma that I liked, was that she’s been in all the Spikes & Spurs books so far. She’s sister to the O’Donnell boys, who we’ve met in “Love Drunk Cowboy” – Rye, “Darn Good Cowboy Christmas” – Raelyn. Along with all the friends we meet along the way.

Trace and Gemma are quite the pair. They are stiff competitio...more

Grade: A-

“That’s not kinky. That’s plain old cowboy sex.”

Just a Cowboy and His Baby has been a book that I have been dying to get my hands on. As a huge fan of the Spikes & Spurs series I was a little disappointed with the last instalment but with Gemma and Trace I got everything a fan could want. Gemma is part of the O’Donnell family from Ringgold, Texas that most of the series has focused on and I have been wanting Gemma’s...more

I had such high expectations for this book. You all know that I ADORE cowboy books and this one had such an interesting premise. I loved the thought of this feisty woman, riding against all the men in a rodeo and kicking their asses. I loved that she would fall in love with her biggest competitor. I didn’t know where the hell the baby fit in from title, but I fricking love baby tropes..... Unfortunately, the premise was much bette...more

Gemma O'Donnell is a bronc riding, cowgirl tough hair dresser with guts and something to prove. She's determined to win that million dollar purse in Las Vegas and show the Pro Circuit that she's got what it takes to win in a male driven field. However, she's got this sexy cowboy trying to throw her off her track with his flirty comments and supposedly innocent touches. Trace Coleman is driving her crazy in lust, and eventually the two stri...more

I haven't written a review for the others in this series but I had to after reading a bad one for this book. Some books need to be read in order & honestly I think that is why I enjoyed this one so much. I have seen Gemma grow into the person that she is now, I understood the background, I knew what the family was talking about and because if all of those things I truly enjoyed this one. I have no clue if other reviewers have done the same or not but if it is a latter book in a series I thin...more

I loved this latest one by Carolyn Brown, A Cowboy and his Baby. It was sweet and romantic how Trace juggles fatherhood and a man in love with a woman. Gemma is totally opposite of him in some ways scary how she completes him in every way from riding, passion to even being a stand in mother at some times. The chemistry between them is instant and only takes a matter of time before they can’t get separated. I loved that Carolyn Brown not only showed us these two main characters but also secondary...more

Pretty cute story. The baby took a long time to make it's appearance, though. And there wasn't the expected baby drama that I was looking for, so that was disappointing. But it was a cute story overall.

This book, just like the others in the series, kept me interested. I love reading every addition to this series that Brown adds. Unlike a couple others, this story was not about a new girl to the town that had inherited property from an elder family member. We have already met, know of, and have grown to love Gemma from the first time we heard of her. The ither character, Trace Coleman, was new to the story, and I liked that for a differect aspect added to the series. The delivery of the unexpec...more

Another fun book in the series, but at times a little slow. I found myself saying "where is the baby?!?!?!!?"

The competition between these bronc riders is what made this book.

My only WTF moment was how everyone under-reacted from someone drugging her drink.... Holy crap! That's a pretty big deal!

Finally Gemma's story! While I kind of wanted to see her with Ace in the last couple of books, I think her HEA is just right this way too. And I like Trace but again would have liked to see his character more flushed out. It seems the author focuses much more on the female characters in this series. And I felt the ending was too soon. I liked how the beginning of the story was paced and then it's as if the author had to finish the book in 8 seconds (pun intended). Still I am looking forward to D...more

This series has had ups and downs for me. I really looked forward to Gemma's story. This one was a down for me. I spent a good portion of the book rolling my eyes.
The following is a scene that irked me- Gemma's driving; Trace is riding shotgun.
Gemma: "So you don't like to side in that seat?"
Trace: "Not when there's a lady in the vehicle."
Gemma: "Why? Do you have to be in control?"
Trace: "When I'm in the vehicle with a woman, I should drive. It's respect, not control."

Huh? Really? Rolled my eye...more

First off, as an image, a big, strong cowboy holding a little baby is, sigh, soooo, well, you know. This was a well put together book. The characters were believable, interesting and flawed. The setting was cool, the rodeo circuit, which is quite foreign to someone from my neck of the woods. The baby addition was adorable and challenging to the plot but almost seemed a little over the top. I was pleased to have won this from the Goodreads Program and look forward to enjoying more of the author's...more

I loved the playful relationship that Gemma and Trace had. They still stuck together although they both were trying to win in the rodeo. The sex scenes were tasteful just like all the other books Carolyn Brown writes. The book really started picking up for me when baby Holly showed up. I cannot believe how Ava treated her daughter. I love the way Trace and Gemma took care of Holly. Gemma really stepped up to the plate although Holly was not her daughter. Trace really stepped up and became a grea...more

4.5 stars. Things are heating up for Gemma O’Donnell and Trace Coleman both in and out of the rodeo arena in Just a Cowboy and His Baby. This sweet yet sexy romance is a delightful addition to Carolyn Brown’s Spikes and Spurs series and it definitely ranks up there as one of my personal favorites of this fabulous series. I received this book in a Goodreads first reads giveaway. Gemma and Trace are competing on the bull riding in the rodeo. Gemma wants the money for her salon and Trace to pay for a ranch. Trace rescues Gemma at a dance and they become friends with an attraction. Their friendship quickly turns romantic and can they survive when Trace gets a surprise baby from an ex? I found it enjoyable and I liked that Gemma was a strong female character.
