Alicia and her father were gamers. Their little ship flew and fought others in space, all for a TV show. People occasionally died, but mostly They fought until their ships were damaged. The winner skipped the next game, the others patched their ships for the next contest.

The gamers were also slaves. But only they and the Lords knew that.

Childhood Dreams was a quick read that felt a bit pointless. Despite being mostly flashbacks I didn't feel like any real knowledge was gained about the characters or the universe it took place in. Everything you learn feels like nothing more than surface knowledge about the main character, things like her relationship to other characters or the barest knowledge of their lives. I didn't find there was much depth to anything and overall I was bored reading Childhood Dreams. The most exciting part ...more
