This book is huge! The gardener and tree hugger in my equally appreciate Oliver's take on food. Oliver weaves conversations about food production, environmental issues, balancing hugging trees with real life, etc. in with his great recipes. He promotes local food, eating foods in season, and discusses the reality of our current food production world. The recipes are mostly straight-forward and simple, which is helpful for us ADD folks. ;-)

I love the unconventional format of this book. Oliver groups the recipes by season/ingredient. This is a great companion to his television series, ironically titled "Jamie at Home." His passion and enthusiasm for fresh ingredients and simple recipes translates very well to the page. Personally, I like to have a companion photo with as many recipes as possible for presentation ideas and this book has wonderful photographs of the food. I haven't cooked all the recipes yet but, I must sa

It's been more than a year and I'm still working through this inspirational collection of seasonal recipes. Frankly, I'm appalled it's taking me so long when everything I make turns out lovely.
Jamie Oliver, my cooking icon, uses veggies as the centerpiece in the majority of the recipes grouped here and every passthrough I find something droolworthy. One of my favorite recipes, the Asparagus and Potato Tart, has made numerous dinner appearances, despite the pitfalls of creating a filo More...

This is one of the most interesting cookbooks I've come across. It's divided by season and subdivided by main ingredient...with gardening tips thrown in to boot! Very cool way to organize recipes, IMHO. And the photography is gorgeous.
In the Introduction Jamie gives a shout out to the Brittish sitcom The Good Life. I fell in love with that show back in the late 80s. The show was produced in the 70s and was way ahead of the curve telling the story of a couple who went off the gri More...

SO CHARMING. Many of the recipes are titled things like Beautiful, Incredible, Amazing, or Really Very Delicious, and include instructions like "Preheat the oven to full whack." There are gorgeous, gorgeous photos of Oliver's garden and the beautiful food that comes out of it, and the whole thing is just incredibly (amazingly! really very deliciously!) inspiring, a celebration of food and cooking and eating. Arranged seasonally, with some basic instructions for growing various kinds of

Love the format of this book. If you're fond of gardening or just dreaming to own a vegetable garden despite living in a cramped urban apartment like me, this book is a great treat! Like most Jamie Oliver's books, this one is filled with great photos, colors, and pretty illustrations.

Whenever I peer into this book, I'm attacked by the green monster of jealousy. How gorgeous (and gigantic) is his garden? It's so fantastic! And that's what's really interesting about his latest cookbook. He intimately describes his garden and teaches you how to grow veggies...shortly, it's awesome.
I've tried a few recipes from his book. I tried his asparagus dishes, which were all fantastic. And I made his onion soup, which turned out yummy. The best thing I think I made so far was More...

I'm a pretty big fan of Oliver's and have been for many years. He's about the only celebrity chef I really like, though I've recently gotten hooked on the Rachel Allen:Bake! show. Anyway, I do actually use Oliver's recipes on a regular basis and this book has several I'm going to try out, especially a beautiful meringue and chocolate dessert.

This isn't really a cookbook as much as it is a manifesto or a lifestyle book. The photography is GORGEOUS, and the book itself is just beautiful, with thick textured paper and a lovely cloth cover. I'm just beginning my cooking experiments, so a lot of the recipes here seem very unfamiliar to me -- not what *I* would consider simple fare. Aside from that, I thought that the gardening / vegetable information was extremely helpful and really liked that portion of the book. This is one to really s

Each chapter of this book was an episode of Jamie at Home (all of which were fantastic). It's in seasonal order and highlights the food Jamie makes at home throughout the year, which includes most things he grows in his garden, as well as broader topics like eggs, barbecue, foraged mushrooms, feathered game, pastry and pizza. He does 3-4 recipes for each section (all complete with beautiful photos) as well as a short write up about each - mostly his planting, growing and harvesting tips, but a

It's really weird to say, that I read a cookbook. But I really did read this cookbook, from cover-to-cover.
I figured out that I have something in common with Jamie Oliver, we both describe the food in the same way. It's something that lives it's own life.
This book has very good recepies, a good ideas how to grow your own vegetables and other food that you can grow by yourself.
I recommend this book for everyone I know having a thing for cooking. : )

Jamie Oliver's latest cookbook is gorgeous. The paper quality is lovely, and the photographs, many of which are multi-page spreads, are of an almost-dreamlike quality. It also reflects Jamie's obsession with his garden and cooking with the fresh produce from it. As always, his recipes are easy-to-follow, full of surprising taste combinations, and delicious. For a cook and a gardener, this is another must-have.

I realise that its rather trendy to hate on Mr Oliver at the moment but I just need to say, God I love you and your garden Jamie Oliver! I have a flourishing herb and veg garden, am in the process of building my own little wood fired oven and building a chook pen and I have never loved cooking more! Thanks for the inspiration Jamie and more power to you and your obvious love of food and cooking.

This is based on the television show (currently airing on The Cooking Channel) of the same name. Simple recipes, from the garden to the table. Includes tips on how to grow vegetables, how to make pizza dough, etc. Excellent photographs, easy to follow. The US version has measurements converted (UK version in metric). Fantastic.
I can't wait to make the butternut squash cupcakes.

Beautiful food photos and writing. This is a cookbook to read. I don't know how much I'll use it to cook so much as inspire, because some of it seems laborious. Great info on gardening - also to inspire the future garden! Bonus - hilarious (and sad, but made me laugh to be in a cookbook) photos of dead animals, presumably to bring one closer to the origin of their food.

Great cook book for those with a veg garden. Don't know what to do with all those tomatoes in March? Just refer to this book and you could have a batch of home made tomato ketchup proudly sitting on your pantry shelf to enjoy when tomato season is over. The salad section is particularly good. I just made the Grilled Peach Salad with Bressaola and a Creamy Dressing for my lunch - simple, quick and delicious.

I was hoping for more out of this book; I actually found the plant facts and growing information to be really useful and interesting, but I wasn't especially floored by the recipes. A little heavier and somewhat more involved than the recipes of Oliver's that I've really liked.

I love the idea of this book - a gardening/cook book. It makes me wish we didn't live in a condo so I had more room to garden. I have a little strip of dirt behind the house that I use to grow herbs and plant flowers, but there's not really room for much else.

Pretty cookbook. Lots of photographs that do not relate to the recipes but still gorgeous to look at. Didn't cook anything from this. Not because I didn't want to, just simply due to lack of time. I'm a huge fan of Jamie Oliver but would not suggest this book as an introduction to his recipes. Start with one of his earlier ones first.

I made 2 recipes from this book so far and both were a success. This is organized by season and even includes gardening tips and how-tos. I am inspired to get back to the earth and back home. Cook your way to the good life.

My second book by Jamie and is my favorite. I love his garden, I have a veg garden and it is so important. Cooks naturally and very thing is so fresh.
The butternut cookies were great and the photos are real personal.

I really want to cook with more fresh ingredients and now that the garden is ALMOST planted, I have heard from good resources that this is the cookbook to use. Now I just have to cross my fingers that my kids will eat it!

This is not only a cookbook, it's also an amazing inspirational book about growing your own vegetables and living in the countryside. I so adore Jamie Oliver for his never ending passion for good and healthy food.

My friend Arlete gave me that after I redecorate my kitchen. I have the portuguese edition. I like the pictures and Jamie's garden. I will sure try to learn some tasty food here. Jamie's tips are very nice.

Lamb kofta kebabs... one of the best recipes I've ever made. This book is organized by season, then by ingredient. It's pretty delightful to read, and so far, all the recipes have been hits with my family.

Brilliant. Wonderful food that is fresh and from the bounty of his garden. Some of the sections make me squirm (freshly killed rabbit shot, anyone?) but for the most part the food is wonderful.

I haven't actually used any recipes from this book yet... but I love the concept! It is well written and organized and the photographs are unique and evocative. But my favorite part of this book is how Jamie tells you in detail how to grow many of the different ingredients he uses and then he dedicates entire sections of the book to those ingredients - i.e. rhubarb, tomatoes, etc. He also has a section on wild game that is very interesting.
Jun 28, 2011
Sections by vegetable, fruit, or wild game with what they are, how he grows them and of course recipes. Does he really eat like this at home? Lots of staged photos of him a la masion.

Jamie Oliver is one of my favorite chefs. This book is great for refining cooking styles. The layout is seasonal, so its easy to find something great, depending what season you are in.

Really gorgeous book with lots of gardening tips and photos. Not as useful as some cookbooks... more of a limited range, but some lovely recipes, and just a nice book to look through.
