After reading the first book in this series, I was happy to also have #2 on hand, so I could quickly start with this book. Like #1, I enjoyed the parts other than the romance between the main characters. I liked reading about the other people in town, their problems, and the like, since I felt the relationship between Maddy and Jeb to be a bit contrived. I really hated the character of Jeb's sister (at first) because she was just so annoying with trying to fix up her brother. Some people just ne...more

The second book in Macomber's Dakota series centers on Maddie Washburn, Lindsay's best friend from childhood. Leaving a stressful job in Savannah, GA as a social worker, Maddie purchases the local grocery in Buffalo Valley and is ready for a fresh start. She is quickly intrigued by Jeb McKenna, a local recluse who lost his leg in a farming accident years earlier. After a blizzard strands Maddie and Jeb for a few days, their relationship takes on a new level.

Like Macomber's previous books, 'Dako...more

I didn't hate this book. But, it definitely wasn't the best I've ever read. Maddy and Jeb are likable characters, but they might be the only ones for me. I personally thought there were too many side stories going on and a real lack of depth to the main story. The other characters and their stories were simply annoying. I hated Sarah and her bratty little daughter. But I suppose it can be seen as a good thing if an author has the talent to make you hate with passion. Overall, it wasn't terrible,...more

I've never read any Debbie Macomber, and I liked this book well enough. I picked it up at a book fair. It's the second book in the series (I of course haven't read the first) but there wasn't much trouble following it.

One complaint that I did have was I thought that she had too many storylines going on at once. Most romance novels, even series, only have two or three storylines going on at once. This book had at least six, and maybe more.

In the first novel of the Dakota series, numerous townspeople were introduced and explored, but the story mainly focused on Gage and Lindsay. In this, the second novel of the series, the sagas of Buffalo Bob, Merrily, Jeb, Maddy, Sarah, and Dennis are continued and become more complicated. And let's not forget Calla, nasty and belligerent as ever, but life isn't so rosy with her "wonderful" dad.

I cannot wait to see what the residents of Buffalo Valley are up to. It was good to see what developed in this storyline although I felt a bit shortchanged with Maddy. One problem I have with Debbie Macomber, is when she writes about a small town with multiple storylines she often shortchanges the characters the novel is supposed to focus on as the series progresses.

The story was silly, even for macomber. I knew it was going to be silly, and I read it any way. Darn those times I just need a super easy read distraction.
Note: she was more detailed about intimate scenes in the book than any of the others of hers I have read.

I couldn't finish this one. Not my type of story. Not believable enough for me. Macomber seems to always have a female character that is so wonderful and cheerful that she can do no wrong and accomplish anything single-handedly. Not my type of romance.

Now that Lindsay is settled, her best friend Maddy comes to town to rescue the local grocery store. During a winter storm, Maddy meets a man who will forever change the way she feels about Buffalo Valley.

This may have been my favorite of the series.

part 2 of a series about a bunch of losers. There are probably 2 likeable characters, and oh sadly we don't follow those characters. The author concentrated too much on these people weaknesses, and mostly she made them all cowards.
Epic fail!
Erin
In keeping with Macomber's typical style this book was sweet, simple and predictable. I loved the emotional journey of Maddy and Jeb. I especially loved Jeb. I tend to be a sucker for a wounded hero. And of course, Buffalo Valley did not disappoint!

This is the second in a series written by the author. Wish I could have started with Dakato Born ... but no problem. The book was good as a stand alone without reading the first. Looking forward to reading the 4 books in the Dakota series.

This is the second book in the Trilogy, and it is a continuation of some of the characters from the first book. It was an okay book to read, but I found it very predictable. But, I enjoyed it just the same. Now on to the third book in the Trilogy. "Always Dakota."

Yet another heartwarming book! I think I enjoyed this book more simply because I am so familiar with some of the places mentioned in the book. I really enjoyed all of the characters and how well they are described and how easily you get involved in their lives.
Meg
The story line was good, but I would have enjoyed reading about 3 of the characters stories. It was confusing and frustrating to have to jump back and forth between the multiple perspectives and various individual story lines of about 20 of the town members.
Brandy
This was book #2 in the Dakota series. It was the story of Maddy & Jeb as well as other towns people. These books are good and keep you reding but are pretty predictable.
Trish
I thought it was just okay. I would say it's probably more realistic than a lot of romances, but it was also kind of depressing.
It's about a town that is failing and the stories of stores closing and farms failing really got to me. It does have a happy ending (it's romance, after all!) but it wasn't all that fun of a ride.
I bought the whole trilogy in a book sale, so I'll read the rest, but if I didn't already have them, I probably wouldn't.

i love the dakota 2 than the first book. jed and her leading lady has a more intense interaction and of course the community where the setting is very funny!

Great continuation of the characters in book 1 of this trilogy. Need to go to library to find book 3 as I do not have it in my collection. Great trilogy
Jane
This is book 2 of Macomber's Dakota series. This book was even better than book 1, Dakota Born. I love Lindsay and Jeb and the love they share.

guilty pleasure --- this type of book CERTAINLY doesn't make me think or move me, but they feel good to read. typical plot, typical characters.
Kitty Tomlinson
Maddy Washburn, Lyndsay Snyder’s best friend, moves to Buffalo Valley and buys the grocery store and is wooed by a buffalo rancher.
Jessica
This was such a great book! I couldn't read more than a chapter without wanting to go throw my arms around my hubby ;) It's a feel good book much like all of Debbie's books.
Shar
I am reading this series recommended by a good friend. They are relaxing reading that don't require much thought; harmless entertainment.
Jackie
Another trip to buffalo Valley, North Dakota. This was another good book that had you drawn to the characters.
Rebecca MA
I found this book much easier to follow than some of her other books with multiple storylines. It was a fantastic book, with in depth character development. I was impressed!
Dawn
