Jason isn’t a midget, he’s an inch and a half off. He’s too short for the police and too tall for the pantomime. He’s also single and has been for all of his 32 years. It’s depressing. But not as depressing as being told by his mother that he looks like Humpty Dumpty – after the accident. So with a face not even his own mother can love, it’s hardly surprising that he’ll ...more

Just lately I’ve been reading a variety of deep weighty, multi-layered novels that take a lot of concentration. To go alongside these and take the pressure off my aching cerebellum I needed something a little lighter. Dating In The Dark provided that light relief.

Pete Sortwell’s humour often made me laugh out loud. I’d perhaps qualify that by saying that humour is a deeply personal thing and the author’s sense of humour won’t necessarily be to everybody’s taste. However, the description of Jason

When I first started reading this book, I didn't much like Jason, the lead character. We have all met annoying people like him. However as the story progressed and snippets of his background emerged, I warmed to him. This is a classic example of how people who have been hurt put up barriers to 'get in there first' and the unpeeling of Jason's layers (so to speak) is handled beautifully by this author. We missed out on so much by creating armour to protect us from taunts and jibes that we ...more
Dating in the Dark ~ Sometimes Love Just Pretends to be Blind tells the story of Jason, a very short man that has no luck with women until he pretends to be blind to meet a woman that will not be able to see him as an ugly little short guy. The lengths he goes to for female attention is told full of self directed humor and at the same time you can't help but like him for trying. When you add a mother with dementia, that keeps telling him that her carers are stealing and hurting her, a best frien ...more

I managed to get hold of a copy of this book via a freebie promotion on the Kindle and as soon as I read the product description, I knew I had to read it straightaway because it sounded like it would be a right good laugh and it delivered on all accounts as I really enjoyed it. Not only is it funny and easy to relate to with a brilliant cast of supporting characters but it is also a great modern day love story that makes you root from the get-go for Jason to find his perfect match. This all ...more

Dating in the Dark is a brilliantly quirky love story, suitable for both Chicks and Chaps. Women get a somewhat interesting, if not disturbing, look into the mind of a single gent, whilst men have the opportunity to read a romance without all the gush and fluff of a normal rom-com.

Personally, as much as I wanted to shake some sense into him, I loved the insight into Jason’s mind. He pulls some of the most ridiculous moves in order to land a woman, coming off as either one of the most warped or m

You've never met a leading man quite like Jason Harding. Pete Sortwell does a nice job setting up Jason's predicament and how he goes about trying to resolve it. The core of the plot shares a lot with another warmhearted romantic comedy, "How to Choose a Sweetheart" by Nigel Bird -- but they are really quite different despite this. Sortwell's story is more like a TV sitcom: he's not afraid to get silly, and for the most part it works. He also works serious themes in well without upsetting the ...more

I was given this book to read in exchange for an honest review through THE Book Club (TBC). This was a very amusing book which made me laugh out loud and also cringe beyond belief! Having read other books by Pete Sortwell I knew this wasn't going to be a "normal" book. It had a great storyline and you felt sorry for and wanted to slap the lead character in equal measures. The ending was great and nothing more (or less) than deserved!

Not really my style however I found I couldn't stop smiling throughout this book.

Jason what a sorry excuse for a person. I some ways very relatable. he has no self confidence and seems to look for love in all the wrong ways.

I enjoyed this book and I did find it interesting just not sure what it really entails . while I did enjoy it I found myself hating Jason. I did like happily ever after

Amazon Kindle Freebie, the fourth of which I've read in a row and I don't regret spending my time with any of them. This was a quick, worth the read. Cute and funny (not-so-much hilarious, but funny is funny). The ending is quite poignant and very different to how the book began (so if you have trouble getting into it, keep reading) and made me wish it was a little longer. Which, good stories always do, don't they? You don't want to part ways with them.

3.5 stars.

Great story, really felt Jason's pain! I was given a free copy by The Book Club on Facebook in exchange for an honest review. I felt that the story moved along at a good pace and kept me wanting more at the end. I was expecting more of a "list of disasters" but actually it's a funny love story. I actually ended up really liking Jason and rooting for him. Looking forward to reading the next one and seeing more of Boris too!

I originally started reading this primarily for the comedic relief. However, the first couple chapters are so chauvinistic and self-serving that I almost quit reading! I'm really glad I kept with it though because the protagonist, Jason, goes through tremendous changes that have the reader cheering him on and crying with him when times get tough. Wonderful read!!

Brilliant book, had me crying with laughter and sadness, the characters were all quite literally characters.

Some people might read what the book is about and be put off, please don't!

It's funny yes, but for all the right reasons and when you read it you'll know why and you'll be glad you did, please read it and tell your friends, i know i will.

I found this book an easy funny pass the time story, very entertaining, I enjoy the reality of the characteristics the characters have but wrote in an funny way thay I am sure any one that has been single can relate to in some level in humorous way . The story line is a bit harfetched however makes good for reading.

Jason is single and has been all of his 32 years. He will try anything for a single date.
Wow. Fantastic read. I loved it.
I thought jason was a great character. He could be funny at times.
This is petes 2nd book i have read and liked. Definetly a must read.

The premise sounds funny.A guy wants a blind girl so he pretends to be blind....hijinks ensue!I did get a few chuckles and I'm sure that people younger than me would relate more to the dating scene.
GREAT narration thanks to Chris Dabbs!

Desperate times call for desperate measures!

Just thinking about this read puts a smile on my face...
The attempts of Jason to find love and get laid already (not necessarily in this order) are so hilariously funny, I was laughing throughout the whole book.

This book was funny, in a very pathetic kind of way. The narrator was just plain boring as a person, but he said some funny crap; he was also a bit too obsessed with finding a woman. He needed to work on himself a bit more if you ask me. That ending was kinda unbelievable, too.

Loved this book! Had never heard of the author, but liked the title so I figured I'd give it a try. Couldn't wait to read each night before bed, it was an enjoying way to unwind after a long day. Great writer and love the story line. Officially a fan of his work!

Loved this book. Was so funny and true to life. You couldn't help but like the main character Jason. Have just bought the second book in the series
I downloaded this to my Kindle because it was free and looked interesting. Boy, I'm glad I did. This was a funny book, with characters that I cared about.

Jason Harding was raised in a dysfunctional family and suffers from every imaginable symptom this entails. He has low self-esteem, a poor self-image, he is a jerk, and lies way too easily. I had a hard time liking his character, he was shallow, egotistical, and blamed his problems on everyone but himself. He was a wanker! He was leading a sad life and some of his dating experiences were so pitiful you had to laugh.

Jason only wants one thing, well two things really... a girlfriend and plenty of c

I received a copy of this book through a book club I belong to on fb. Thank you Tracy Fenton it has been a pure delight.
This is the story of Jason Harding who is out literally to get a woman to sleep with him. At 32 he has seen everyone around him pair off with someone, even his long time best friend Barry has settled down. Jason at only four foot ten and a half was small in statue and lacked self esteem, even his mum made him feel ugly. Jason's attempt at work to be "Friendly" with the girls ha

Dating in the Dark was incredibly entertaining and fun. This was a non-stop listen for me. The characters are fantastic. Jason, the protagonist thinks he's ugly so on his quest in finding someone to date, he goes to a dating service, speed dating, and an internet dating site before deciding his best option is to date a blind girl. Not only is this audiobook laugh-out-loud funny, it's also really cute. It's Original. And it builds and grows on you rather quickly.

Jason creates a whole fake persona

A Good Snigger

It’s said that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but this one just said, “read me!” I am pleased to say that I was not disappointed. This is a thoroughly entertaining comedy. With lines such as, “I had some money, but not enough to buy a whole dog,” I chuckled through most of the book.

The antics that Jason gets up to with his lies are so natural that we can easily imagine ourselves in a similar situation. Then there are the dogs. One pretty much eats everything, and that alo

I read / listened to this book in audio format via I always choose the audios first as the narrators tend to breath life into the stories. Audios also allow us to do things in life as we read our books at the same time!

This book had me laughing my butt off! A comedy that is so off the wall, it's genius and hilarious!

This book is about a guy who is short and ugly. He has a really hard time finding a date, so he got an idea. He decides to use the dating service for the disabled. May

I received a copy of this from Tracy Fenton's facebook book club The Book Club (TBC) in exchange for an honest review. I absolutely loved it! It is the story of 32 year old Jason who has been looking for love in all the wrong ways as long as he can remember. All his life he has been a loser in love and life, his work don't even notice when he doesn't turn up. When his lifelong best friend Barry finds a girlfriend, he decides to give the dating game another go. Being a self confessed 'short-arse' ...more

Dating in the Dark – Pete Sortwell
I was offered this book to review for my Facebook Bookclub - THE Book Club (TBC). Because it is so different from my normal dark and creepy thrillers I wanted to see what all the hype was about humorous novels as I have never read one before. Well I am so glad I did, and just loved it.
Although it is a humour/comedy/romance and had me laughing out loud at times, especially when Jason’s Mom told him he looks like Humpty Dumpty – after the accident (quite cruel rea
