On the night of November 5, 2006, the Barrick family was driving home from church when their van was struck by a drunk driver. Fifteen-year-old Jen suffered multiple skull fractures and severe brain trauma and was not expected to survive the night. But against all odds, she did. As she lingered in a coma, doctors warned that if Jen ever woke up, she would be cursing and sc ...more

Sometimes life can change in an instant. The plans that we had laid out in front of us, the goals in life we had hoped to achieve, even a simple dinner plan with friends can be changed in the blink of an eye. That is just what happened to the Barrick family. One minute they were on their way home from an event at church where they watched their daughter, Jen sing in the church choir and preparing for dinner at their house to celebrate with family and friends. However when a drunk driver slammed ...more

Miracle for Jen is the miraculous story of a teenaged girl whose life was radically changed the night a drunk driver hit her family’s van while they were returning home from church. Although her Mom and Dad, and brother were injured, Jen received the blunt of the crash and ended up in a coma for five weeks. As her parents, Andy and Linda, slowly recovered from their multiple injuries, they continued to faithfully
The Bible says that the Holy Spirit living inside a Christian is like a treasure hiding in an earthen vessel. What happens when the fragile vessel housing that precious treasure cracks and breaks? The brokenness provides an even greater opportunity for God’s Spirit to shine.

Just so, my friend’s mother, who suffered from Alzheimer’s, could not remember her own name but somehow knew every word of her favorite hymns and Bible verses. Or my learning-disabled student, who could barely retain enough
This book touched me profoundly which is what makes writing this review so hard , because how do you write a review about a book that rocks you to the core? , how can you properly convey that? I'm going to try to the best of my ability to explain what is so great about this book. Miracle Jen to me was a modern relive story of Job. Many people believe that now days Miracle only happen to in the Bible, but after reading Miracle Jen and seeing what this family persevered through , I don't know anyo ...more

FTC Disclaimer: I received this book complimentary from Tyndale House in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I’m not even sure where to start with this book — it was so unbelievably moving that I felt at a loss for words when I finished reading it. Miracle for Jen is the story of Jennifer Barrick, who was in a car accident one night, after a church performance, with her parents and her brother. Everyone suffered injuries, but Jennifer’s was the most severe. In fact, the doctor’s didn’t even th

A tragic yet amazing true story of the struggle and recovery of a family only through the power of God.

What a mix of sadness and enlightment this story has been. I like no one else on earth can even begin to fanthom Gods plans, or reasoning, for why this accident happened to the Barrick family, or the miracles that have come after. Sometimes we may assume that because we are already in a relationship with God we are safe from evil. It can be even more heart-wrenching to struggle with feelings of
The Barrick family is coming home one evening when their lives are forever changed. A drunk driver hits them head on and all of them sustain injuries that put them in the hospital. But the daughter, Jen, will never be the same. What begin as prayers for recovery turn into prayers of acceptance and prayers for guidance. It's clear that God has plans for Jen and the family is learning to adapt.

This book was very well written. I was able to read it all in one evening. I was riveted from the very be
My Thoughts: Barrick doesn't mess around with a sweet intro but rather jumps right into the horrific awareness of knowing she'd been in an accident, was injured, trapped and was unable to assist her husband or children. The story of her recovery along with that of the rest of her family especially of Jen is heart wrenching. There were times I couldn't keep reading through the tears in my eyes.
Barrick focuses on her daughter Jen, most seriously injured and not expected to survive. She tells of mi
It is hard to know where to start with this book. Here is a story that could totally have been avoided, it should never have happened. A drivers license suspended, a driver slumped over his steering wheel, pulled over by the police just minutes before the accident. But still it happened. How does a mother (family) get past that? Told from the point of view of Linda Barrick, Jen's mother. Here is an emotional packed book that grabbed me and I had a hard time putting this book down.

I found this book very inspiring. It was a great reminder of so many things - putting full and complete trust in God, even when you don't understand His reasons was the biggest for me. A call to re-invigorate my prayer life, to make it come alive more, to spark that fire and get it blazing.
An awesome and inspiring story of God's love!

Sometimes we need to be reminded that God can use us despite our short comings and faults. We need to be shown God’s strength is shown best in our own weakness. If you need this reminder, this book is an excellent choice for doing that.

From the first chapter I was captivated by this story. It was told like I imagine Linda would tell it if I was sitting in her living room, hearing what God had done in her life, and in

What can I say? It always amazes me how God can use even the most hopeless of situations for his good purpose. Jen Barrick is a living testimony to God's healing power and grace in her life. There were times when I laughed, there were times I cried, and also times I was shaken to the core by the absolute horror of what the Barrick family had to go through. Miracle for Jen challenged me to step back and look at how I am living for God in my life.

Jennifer Barrick is a faith-full teenager who wants to be used by God in big ways. But, due to her quiet demeanor, she prays often for boldness to share her faith. One night, on the way home from a concert, the Barrick family's lives are forever changed when they are involved in a horrific car accident which leaves Jen severely brain damaged.

The book is told from her mother, Linda's, point of view, as this is ultimately a book about a family. The faith of the whole family is tested through this

What an excellent book. Jen is a girl whom,as a teenager, had an amazingly strong faith. She was a quiet reserved girl who filled journal after journal with her faith. At the age of 15, Jen's life was nearly taken from her by a drunk driver who is now in a vegetative state. Every part of Jen's brain was damaged in the accident. She was not expected to live. Jen was in a coma for 5 weeks. The amazing part about Jen is that when she awoke from her coma she praying to God, praising Him in a clear v ...more
A book about a horrible accident and the survivors.

Linda Barrick has a powerful story to tell and she's poured it all out in this book. While she and her daughter doing public speaking events, this book details the events of the car accident and incredibly long road to recovery.

The Barrick family was driving home from church when a drunk driver sped away from a police officer and smashed into their vehicle. Jen received the brunt of the injuries and doctors didn't think she would ever recover. B
Jennifer Barrick at a young age would write in her journal about how she wanted to be used by God in a great way.
One day as her family was coming home from a concert at church, tragedy struck. The van they were riding in was hit by a drunk driver. Jennifer was injured and in a coma.
The Doctors tell her family and friends that she will not be the same when she wakes.

The Doctors were right, God transformed Jennifer into a walking and talking testimony for His glory.
And what and a great testimony t

Growing up in Lynchburg, I knew about this family when the accident happened. I never have known them personally, but many of the names mentioned in the book are familiar, having been around the TRBC and Liberty community for a long time. This story of miraculous survival in the face of a life-altering car accident is one that encourages your faith in God in the midst of horrific circumstances. Reading the account of the events leading up to the accident and immediately following the collision c ...more

This was an amazing story that can't help but shake up your faith and make you think. Jen and her family had an experience none of us would ask for or want for our kids, and yet it was God's perfect plan for them, and through it many have come to Christ. Would we be willing to serve Him passionately if it meant changing everything? If it meant pain, daily struggle, and never going back to "normal"? Would I? Could I trust God? Jen's accident was the answer to her prayer that God use her in a prof ...more
A fantastic read! Not just because you are shown so many miracles in this family~ and many other's~ lives, but I was really drawn in.
Maybe being a mother made it hit home more to me, but as I read the first several chapters, I just wept. (I was on an airplane with my son, so you know he loved that!) ;) The tears just flowed as I read turned each page, and I couldn't put the book down.

I love how Linda is able to share with the reader just how human she is and was through all of this. Just as mos

Driving home from church in November 2006, the Barrick family van was hit by a drunk driver, changing all of their lives. Although all of them were injured severely, fifteen year old daughter Jen’s were the most devastating, leaving here in a coma with severe brain injuries. As she began emerging five weeks later, her personality and physical abilities were drastically changed. But she had an amazing connection with God and could clearly sing His praises and quote His word although she could not ...more
This true life story was incredible. I appreciated the honesty of Jen's mom throughout. It wouldn't be easy to see someone you love so much, who seemingly had it all, to appear to lose it all. There were times that I thought it may have been a little contrived, which sounds horrible, I know, but when you read the journal entries from Jen from before the accident, it's evident that God is at work.

The only thing negative thing was towards the end. It got repetitive and the last fifty or so pages d
Wow! I love this book and it encourages me in my own health journey. God truly does amazing things with the heart that wants to follow Him and be used by Him!

My mom asked me to read this book. I'm willing to read just about anything. She said she heard the mother speak and it was inspiring. I could use a little inspiration. It started out well enough, tragic and terribly sad, but well written and I was definetly hooked and had to find out how this girl manages to survive after this horrific accident. About a third of the way through my interest began to wan. By the middle when a few inconsistencies showed up, which should never happen, but especially ...more

A truly inspiring story with no tidy conclusion of everything being back to normal. "Miracle For Jen" is a book that tells the extraordinary story of what God can do with a life that some might call over. Linda Barrick shares how God answered her daughter Jennifer's prayers that she might be made bold for Christ. Including diary entries from her daughter's prayer journals before and after the accident that changed her life forever, it is clear that God did answer a teenage girl's prayers in a wa ...more

Amazing account of God's often-unseen work through physical tragedy. Although Jen suffered severe brain damage after her family's car accident, her spirit remained whole - and though she could not articulate a simple sentence or recognize her loved ones, she could spend hours communing with her Heavenly Father. Truly an unforgettable read, that is both convicting (do I> have that sort of eternal focus?) and comforting (God will use us mightily if we are surrendered to Him!). Highly recommende ...more
