As a coming of age memoir this is nicely done. She has a gift for telling a simple story in a realistic way that brings you right into her experiences. You feel her confusion and inability to understand why the adults in her life seem to have abandoned her. You root for her as she copes, and just toughs it through a challenging childhood and adolesence.

The writing is tight; one particularly descriptive series describes the ride she accepted in the car with Betty and the boys. The passage captur...more

A courageous autobiography of women that went through many hardships, always remaining strong for those that needed her and always doing for others. This book will grab your attention from chapter 1. The author starts the book with a near death experience and then goes back in time telling about her childhood. I wish this book would have told more about her journey with spirituality and healing rather than her life history. This is why I rated it 3 stars.

I can't quite decide what to make of this book. Really the author has gone through the same problems pretty much all of us have, difficult childhood moments, bad marriage, divorce, single parenthood, work politics, facing the death of her parents, I kept thinking to myself what is so special about this lady that she felt she needed to write about it? But then I also thought it harsh of myself to think that way as the author comes across as such a loving wo...more
I enjoyed this book, but it left me wanting more.

The editor mentions her spirit guide and after her near death experience, she also mentioned using crystals to help heal another person's pain. But the book does not explain by what means she learned to heal with crystals and when she became aware of her spirit guide or guides. Did the healing knowledge come to her in visions or dreams as with Edgar Cayse? None of this was explained.

The family interactions and story of the author's life made an i...more

A journey of struggle, learning, stretching, trusting

I loved this author and her honesty. Her story is different but succeed or fail she isn't afraid to put herself out there. I couldn't stop reading!
It wasn't what I had expected based on the title itself. Its more of an autobiography of the author's life from childhood to adulthood dealing with the hardships of being an outsider, a divorcee, and what society had and still does define "insane" regardless of what you think you truly have experienced while sane. I felt the author left out a lot of important details that would have helped the book stay truer to the given title.
This is a very well written and interesting book. You will feel each experience along the way.
