A nice non-fiction picture book series making historical figures accessible as we strive to engage children in the learning process. Nicely written and engagingly illustrated. A good addition to any classroom.

good children's biography and cute illustrations
This book is neatly written and beautifully illustrated. The aspect of the meetings between races is very understated and indeed not really addressed in all its gory truth. Perhaps that's okay if the focus is on a biographical account of Cook, but it's hard to read about Cook 'claiming' Australia for the king and not cringe. Australia already belonged to other people, but their existence was not considered significant. Yesterday was Mabo day here, so the reading of this book seemed ironic and ...more

Great presentation of Australian history in a picture book format. Story followed by timeline, maps on endpapers, fantastic illustrations.
