I have read countless Point Horror books as a teenager and I loved the simple characters, the drama and the cliffhanger endings with every chapter. In a somewhat nostalgic moment I picked up one of my favourite point horror authors R.L.Stine. He is a fantastic writer so I selected The Snowman, one I hadn't read before, expecting something great.
This book was a disappointment. Stine normally finishes each chapter with something like, "She felt a hand on her shoulder and froze with fear" to make y...more

R.L Stine is the reason I'm such an avid reader today. While other kids played on the monkey bars during recess in 3rd grade, I devoured his Fear Street series as though my very life depended on it. His books could be cheesy or formulaic at times but they are the books that taught me to love reading and so vision may be nostalgia tinted.
I found The Snowman at a local thrift store for 50 cents, a price that couldn't be beat, and decided to see how R.L Stein's writing held up now that I'm quite a...more

The Snowman is actually a childhood favorite of mine, as I remember reading it over and over in elementary school. This entire book is rally captivating with mystery, suspense, and a bit of thrill within it. As the author of the Goosebumps series, R.L. Stine uses his creative skill to add a bit of darkness and fear within the story. I was always really taken into the relationship between Heather and "Snowman" with the way the author described everything. As you read further in, there are twists...more

The Snowman was among the many Point Horror books I read in the 90s, between the ages of 12 to 16. In those days, when I wasn't buried in a Stephen King novel, nine times out of ten I was reading L.J. Smith, R.L. Stine, Christopher Pike, Caroline B. Cooney, or Richie Tankersley Cusick. Their novels always thrilled and entertained, and yes, there was a healthy dose of jumps and creepies.
Nowadays, I'd recommend the Point Horror books for younger 12- to 15-year-olds, who want to dip...more

This book is about a girl named Heather who parents had died and left an incredible amount of money. But her uncle didnt let her use it, so she hated him. One day while she was working she met a white haired boy. They became friends and soon they started going out. Her boy friend knew about the money so he took a check 2000 dollars. Then he uses that money to frame her by killing her uncle. And he keeps on taking money from her account. Want to know the rest than read the book.
Someone gave this to Emily to read and I told her I would have to preview it. Not a great book but I have read worse. She likes the Goosebumps books and I have let her read them since I look at these are children's versions of the James Patterson books I enjoy reading for occasional "mind candy." Have mixed feelings about her reading it now but maybe when she gets to junior high.........
Heather hates her Uncle James. Her friends, boyfriend, and even her neighbors know that she loathes him with a passion. After all, how many times had they heard her say that she wished he was dead? Her bleak, stressful life seems to lighten a bit when a mysterious boy with snow white hair walks into the diner where she waitresses. Intrigued, he asks her out and she agrees, and she's happy, at first. It's not long after that this boy "Snowman" begins acting weird- asking for money, not calling he...more
