ALOYSIUS!!!!! This is the backstory of the crotchety old warlock in the Courtney Crumrin books, when he was young and dashing. :D Lots of humor, great art as always. Recommended!! Although, I read this after reading the Courtney Crumrin books, so your appreciation of the character may or may not hinge on that....

To fans of Naifeh's Crumrin series, this book offers a great insight into the lives of witches and wizards in Courtney's world beyond what she sees in the coven.

To new readers, this is a solid stand-alone story of adventuresome magic. It recalls Mignola's B.P.R.D. in its graphic visual style and merciless steampunk storyline. If you liked The Tale of Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrel and the Harry Potter series, you'll probably like this book.

Really enjoyed this little glimpse into a younger Aloysius. I only wish it was a little longer.

I do think that those who are already fans of the Crumrin stories will appreciate it more than someone picking up the series for the first time, though.

The Courtney Crumrin books are unfailingly excellent, and this one's no exception. I only wish that the ongoing series of stories featuring on characters peripheral to the Courtney Crumrin universe had continued. I could frankly read these all day.
